Description: Navigator of Writer has too many elements that consume a lot of screen estate and are virtually never used in typical usage scenarios. These include: 1. navigator UI elements above navigator items box, 2. navigator target box below items box, 3. space between navigator and document. This problem is much worse when using Libreoffice on small laptop screen with one app in each corner of the screen. It is maybe easier to understand this issue from a screenshot. I don't know how to but one here so below is a link to screenshot that will be online for at least couple of weeks: https://1drv.ms/i/c/9ae6b4fc77ec78a7/EU0-C0p-NQNJt4-sqcCH_zUBj3IvuHC86HdolyQrWCe4ZA?e=r7SC3r Steps to Reproduce: 1. open navigator with a long document that has a lot of bookmarks 2. resize libreoffice to very small space such as quarter of laptop screen 3. Actual Results: too much clutter Expected Results: ability to hide all elements of navigator window. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Another link to the screenshot: https://1drv.ms/i/c/9ae6b4fc77ec78a7/EU0-C0p-NQNJt4-sqcCH_zUBj3IvuHC86HdolyQrWCe4ZA?e=r7SC3r

it's because you have a wrong document outline I don't think it's a bug at all
(In reply to Roman Kuznetsov from comment #2) > it's because you have a wrong document outline > > I don't think it's a bug at all what do you mean by wrong document outline? I didn't mean that it is a bug. I selected enhancement, which I interpreted as the only feasible place for a feature request. But if there is other more appropriate way to make one then please let me know.
>ability to hide all elements of navigator window. So, may be just don't use the Navigator then? All categories in the Navigator can be collapsed, I really don't see any problem here
You can 'Hide' the SB Deck, putting it out of the way but still running, mouse click on 'Open' thumb to expose it. You can reduce the width (hiding elements on the SB) by setting expert config 'MinimumWidth' to false. Alternatively you can run the floating instance of the Navigator (launch with the F5 shortcut). Otherwise the Navigator SB Deck is suited to task with no advantage to changing its default layout or widget dimensions. IMHO => WF
(In reply to V Stuart Foote from comment #5) > mouse click on 'Open' thumb to expose it. > s/'Open'/'Show'

Which one do you rather use if you need the nav only for jumping between sections? Usability difference is significant. https://1drv.ms/i/c/9ae6b4fc77ec78a7/EUW6t-wAZ3VIkvryNV86V1UBzyZYu44_2xSEnfjvf31N6g?e=dxVqSP

Created attachment 198936 [details] Screenshot The grey white space is not only caused by the Navigator but also the document canvas. Look at the small icon on top (this angle icon, which changes the tab property on click). It depends a lot on the theme, on other OS/DE the document background does not merge like this with the application background (you may configure this too). You can minimize the Navigator by clicking the tiny button in the middle, or since you run it attached to the left side shrink the size with the vertical splitter (your cursor changes the appearance on hover). Putting all together: I see no issue with the Navigator. But feel to comment or even reopen the ticket. Input is very much welcome.

It was just a correction to comment #5, "click on the 'Show' thumb" 'Show' | 'Hide' are the actual labels for the SB Deck exposure triangles.
