Description Alex 2025-04-02 13:06:05 UTC
Description:
When I open a new or existing Writer page the working part of the page is in 'dark mode' and is very difficult to work in. I changed it in the setting to be light but when I close and reopen LibreOffice it's reverts back to the Writer page opening dark.
When I change a setting the buttons to save changes are white with white words and not easily readable.
I have the Appearance set to Light with the Document background set to White and it still opens dark.

Version: 25.2.1.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: d3abf4aee5fd705e4a92bba33a32f40bc4e56f49
CPU threads: 24; OS: Windows 11 X86_64 (10.0 build 26100); UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US
Calc: CL threaded

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open
2.Change settings to Light Appearance and White document background and Close
3.Open LibreOffice and it is back to the dark issue

Actual Results:
This only happens with Writer. All other options in LibreOffice open correctly

Expected Results:
I was expecting the Writer page to open with a white background no matter what I had the Theme set to. Changing the theme from dark to system or light mode should not change the writing portion of the Writer page. Changing the document background in the setting to white should have fixed this but did not.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
I opened in safe mode and the problem is there as well. Plus, I cannot exit from safe mode.

This might be fixed in bug 165438 - can you try with 25.2.2?

25.2.2 release would not correct OPs issue. Instead use a curated appearance theme.

Editing the Tools -> Options -> Appearance in its default (os/DE color theme) at 25.2 is not working correctly and has some nasty behavior, leave it set to System and avoid having to reset profile to restore defaults.

Use the Tools -> Options -> Appearance panel and use the "Add more themes" button (the puzzle piece icon) to select a theme.

If you'd like an appearance like the previous UI, install and select the 'Light Application Color' theme. Allow the offered Restart LibreOffice.

Note: Please see the release notes. https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/25.2#User_Interface

At the 25.2 release a new Appearance Theme framework was implemented.

By default it follows the os/DE color sense (for light or dark theme) as previously, but also implements extension based color theming for the user interface.

Also do not change the Radio buttons from System, Light or Dark when using the 'Default' os/DE provided Automatic values theme. Corrected for the 25.8 release, but at 25.2 setting Light or Dark will corrupt ability to follow the os/DE color sense.
