Description ian_pocock 2025-05-05 12:41:41 UTC
Description:
When using the Find function in Libre Office Writer, it will frequently crash. I send a crash report every time it happens. It is still happening so not sure if the crash reports are helping or if there's anything that can be done to stop it crashing so frequently when using the Find function

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click Ctrl+F
2.Enter a word or phrase in the document
3.Press enter

Actual Results:
Every 5-10 times I use the Find function, LibreOffice will crash, I will send the crash report and it will save my documents before recovering and reopening them

Expected Results:
It will find the word or phrase in the document without crashing

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Find the word or phrase in the document without crashing

Thank you for reporting the bug. To be certain the reported issue is not related to corruption in the user profile, could you please reset your Libreoffice profile ( https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile ) and re-test?

I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the issue is still present

I think I did what was required. I restarted LibreOffice in safe mode (saving my user profile) and recreated the issue by using the find function. LibreOffice didn't crash even though I used the find function several times. What is the next step? Thanks

Thanks Mikhail. Do you mean it's not present in the 'main version' of LibreOffice but just 'my' version of it. Apologies if I've misunderstood your comment.

it means we cannot reproduce the bug, so it requires more context, not just the version. maybe the file, the string, ...

do you have some URLs of these reports ?

see https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/en-US/text/shared/guide/error_report.html

Hello ian_pocock@yahoo.co.uk,
Does it happen with any specific document ? if so, could you please attach it ?
OTOH, could you please record a screencast showing how to reproduce the issue ?
There are various free screencast software available for use, including Camstudio (Windows), Jing (Mac), Simple Screen Recorder (Linux) or screencast-o-matic.com (Web).

It's happened in various different documents so the issue is not related to a specific document.
I've uploaded a screenshot of the error message I get after it has crashed. Not sure how else I can demonstrate it - it happens when I use the find function (Ctrl+F) to find a word in the document - I use it a fair bit and every 15-20 times or so, it will crash LibreOffice.
Here's the crash report for the latest crash: https://crashreport.libreoffice.org/stats/crash_details/2d719c13-f9e9-49fb-bcf4-edf5d910c96f

A) Do those documents contain a table of content?
B) Is the navigator deck open in the sidebar

Your crash report suggests it somehow related to bug 148312
Comment 13 ian_pocock 2025-06-26 18:15:28 UTC
1) No they don't - it happens on any Writer document I use and none of them have a table of contents.
2) No the navigator deck open isn't open the sidebar.

Thanks

Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.
