Section "Loading and saving documents" of Chapter 12 (Configuring LibreOffice) of the Getting Started Guide 7.6 describes option "Load printer settings with the document" as: > If enabled, the printer settings are loaded with the document. This can cause a document to be printed on a distant printer (perhaps in an office setting). To prevent this happening, manually change the printer in the Print dialog. If disabled, the default printer will be used to print the document. The current printer settings are stored with the document whether or not this option is selected. Sentence "If disabled, the default printer will be used to print the document." is misleading, since the printer can be chosen regardless of that option's value. The sentence could be fixed with something like: > If disabled, the default printer for all documents will be the operating system’s default printer. By the way, the current description does not make it clear why one would enable that option. The label is also not clear about the option’s role. Perhaps it would be clearer to label it "Load the document’s printer settings".
This persists in version 24.8 of the guide.
In LibreOffice, if "Load printer settings with the document" selects the wrong printer: Go to Tools → Options → Load/Save → General. Uncheck "Load printer settings with the document" to prevent loading saved printer settings. Manually select the correct printer before printing. https://flickingsoccer.org
this will go to the Help, and later in the book: -----8<----- Regardless of whether this option is checked, the current printer settings will be saved with the document. If 'Load printer settings with the document' is enabled, the current printer settings will be loaded with the document. In an office setting, this may result in the document being printed on a different printer, perhaps located in another floor or another building, unless you manually select the correct printer in the Print dialog. If 'Load printer settings with the document' is disabled, the saved settings is not used and your current system default printer will be used to print the document. You can override the setting by selecting the correct printer in the Print dialog. -----8<-----
Thank you very much Olivier, that solves and the new version is much better. If I may nitpick, I would suggest to replace "your current system default printer" with either: > your system’s current default printer > your system printer And for the last paragraph: > If 'Load printer settings with the document' is disabled, the saved settings are not used and the document will be printed on the system printer, unless overridden by selecting a different printer in the Print dialog.
Olivier Hallot committed a patch related to this issue. It has been pushed to "master": https://git.libreoffice.org/help/commit/59fe73d2ccbe535881e11547b7213fb24e82a3c2 tdf#166472 Improve "Load printer setting with document"
