Screenshot of the Bookmark dialog box with narrow Name column.

The "Name" column within the Bookmark dialog box in LibreOffice Writer is often initially too narrow, truncating bookmark names. Although Bookmark remembers the size of the dialog box, and users can manually resize this column, the dialog does not retain the adjusted width for subsequent openings, requiring users to repeatedly resize it for better readability.

Steps to Reproduce:

Open LibreOffice Writer.

Create several bookmarks within the document (e.g., by selecting text and going to Insert > Bookmark...). Make sure some bookmark names are long enough to be truncated by the default column width.

Open the Bookmark dialog box by going to Insert > Bookmark... or Maps > Bookmarks....

Observe the "Name" column width. It is typically narrow, cutting off longer bookmark names.

Manually resize the "Name" column by dragging the separator between the "Name" and "Page" columns to a wider, more readable size.

Close the Bookmark dialog box.

Re-open the Bookmark dialog box (Step 3).

Actual Results:
The "Name" column reverts to its default, narrow width, discarding the user's previous adjustment.

Expected Results:
The Bookmark dialog box should remember and apply the user's last-adjusted column widths (specifically for the "Name" column) when it is reopened, similar to how it typically remembers the overall dialog box size and position. This would enhance user convenience and productivity by reducing repetitive manual adjustments.

Workaround (if any):
There is no persistent workaround. Users must manually resize the column every time they open the Bookmark dialog.

Severity:
Minor to Medium – While not preventing functionality, this is a persistent usability annoyance that forces repetitive actions, especially for users who frequently manage bookmarks or have long bookmark names.

Additional Notes:
This issue seems to be a specific instance of a broader problem where certain dialog elements in LibreOffice do not consistently remember user-defined sizing preferences. There have been discussions (e.g., in Bug 101285 and Bug 149074 mentioned in relation to Bug 146261) that suggest an attempt was made to implement this functionality for the Bookmark dialog, but it may not have been fully successful or stable.

I can confirm this issue. In the Bookmark dialog (Insert → Bookmark…), the Name column is initially too narrow and truncates longer bookmark names.

After manually resizing the Name column, closing the dialog, and reopening it, the adjusted column width is not preserved and resets to its default narrow size.

The dialog window size itself is remembered, but the column width is not.
