Description Albert Acer 2025-11-18 10:01:15 UTC
Description:
When I try to insert the page number in a large multi-page document, at the top or bottom of the page, using the ‘Page Number Wizard’, for example, with left/right alignment, that number is arbitrarily aligned to the opposite side on even-numbered pages.

In addition, when I insert the page number in the Bottom or Top position, with centre alignment, LO Writer does not display the page number on even-numbered pages.

The scenarios where the error occurs are:
Inserting Page Number in the Top Right Corner
Inserting Page Number at Top Left
Inserting Page Number at Bottom Right
Inserting Page Number at Bottom Left
Inserting Page Number at Top, Centred
Inserting Page Number at Bottom, Centred

This is very frustrating because it causes the user to become desperate and forced to abandon LibreOffice and look for another programme that does not generate this error, such as OnlyOffice, FreeOffice, Wps Office, Google Docs, or Microsoft Office.

In all my tests, with large multi-page documents, this error occurs in all recent versions of LO (24.X.X, and 25.X.X).

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a multi-page document in LO Writer.
2. Click on the ‘Insert’ menu.
3. Click on the ‘Page Number...’ option.
4. In the ‘Page Number Wizard,’ find the ‘Alignment’ section and select “Left” or ‘Right.’
5. Keep the ‘Same content on even pages’ option enabled.
6. Preferably check and activate or select the ‘Fit to existing margins’ option.
7. Click on ‘OK’.
8. Navigate through the document and observe what happens on the even pages.

Actual Results:
On even pages, LO Writer arbitrarily aligns the page number on the opposite side from the one selected by the user. This means that the page number is aligned alternately on each page as follows: Left – right – left – right – left – right – left – right, etc., indefinitely, without respecting the fixed alignment selected by the user. Furthermore, if the user decides to place the page number at the bottom or top, but aligned in the centre, the page number disappears from the even-numbered pages

Expected Results:
LO Writer should not ignore the page number alignment options selected by the user, especially on even-numbered pages.

Reproducible: Always
