Description gilles.sqy 2025-11-19 17:18:02 UTC
Hello,

I suggest to add to the menu item file/New the same that was added to File/Recent documents a few years ago : the possibility to see the files that correspond only to current module.
I suppose que when you ask for a new file and you are in Calc module for example, you want to create most often a Calc sheet.
I hope that my suggestion is clear. I'am not a native english speaker. I'm French.
Thanks for your undrstanding.
Gilles

Why would this be necessary? The File -> New menu has only so many type/template links to pick from, e.g. 12 for Writer, certainly doesn't feel overwhelming.

What would be gained by filtering against the current active module?

Please clarify the workflow this would support.

I will try to clarify my request :
- when I have opened the Calc module (for example) and I want to create a new file, it is mostly a Calc Spreadsheet and not an Impress Presentation or a Text Document.
I suggest that an option can be added to the File/New item (like for Recent documents item) : Current module only to propose only (or not) the Spreadsheet item.
It is not easy for me to write in English.
Sorry
Gilles

-1, no real benefit to add "current module only" option on the File -> New menu.

Just visual noise on the menu.

With potential that if done as an Options panel entry, or only an expert configuration stanza, for users to forget how to recover to full function menu.

In the classic toolbar the very first item is New / uno:AddDirect, which adds either a new text document or a spreadsheet etc. depending on what module you are running. You can also execute the action via ctrl+N.

The main menu lists all possible options - somewhere we have to do it.

I see no need or room for improvements here. Please reopen if you disagree.
