Similar to work i've been doing with improving the toolbars, i'm also be working on improving the menus and this is a meta bug to track such changes. Others are welcome to add other bug reports related to changes to the menus.

No icons in CALC for Format -> Flip -> "Flip Vertically" and "Flip Horizontally" while in WRITER there are already icons available

Sorry, my fault and thanks a lot for your feedback!  You had also opened Meta Bugs for CALC and WRITER toolbars.  Should it be added there or would this also be the wrong place?

Hi Andy,

The meta bugs for calc and writer are limited to adding and removing buttons from the toolbar.
