Description Asif Mahmud Shimon 2019-08-13 07:21:35 UTC
Description:
Hi, when i use it KDE Plasma desktop with global menu turned on, i see double menu entries in the global menu bar. Like "File" menu comes up twice and every other menu shows up twice as well. The most weird thing is one set of menu contains disabled submenu entries and the other contains enabled submenus. This only happened for "Contextual Groups" views along with its "Compact" version.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use KDE Plasma Desktop (any version that supports global menu. I am using 5.16)
2. Turn on global menu. To do that you have to add an widget called "Global Menu" to to panel or desktop.
3. Open up Libreoffice Writer or any other Libreoffice application.
4. Set "User Interface" to "Contextual Groups" (both non-compact and compact version will do)
5. Restart the application.

Actual Results:
You'll see duplicate menu in the global menu.

Expected Results:
One set menu items in the global menu widget was expected.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

In certain situations, more than one global menu is displayed in GTK3 VCL, when used with Unity-style globalmenu - vala-panel-appmenu, or with GTK3 Backend on KDE.

Test environment - 6.4.0.0-alpha on Ubuntu 19.10, Unity DE
About box - see: 20-11-19-MT-About.png

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch Writer directly - perfect, no duplicate menus.
2. Launch Start Center - duplicate menus (see: 20-11-19-MT-SC.png)
3. Launch Writer from Start Center - duplicate menus (see: 20-11-19-MT-SC-Writer.png)

Actual Results:
Duplicate menus seen in steps 2 and 3.

Expected Results:
No duplicate menus in any of the 3 steps.

Bug disappered with UBUNTU 20.02 and LO 6.4

This sounds pretty much like tdf#124391 which was fixed after this bug report here was created.

However, some of the bugs closed as duplicates (like tdf#131525) mention LO versions that should contain the fix already. This *might* be related to gtk/Qt/kf5 libraries being used on the system and not a bug in LO itself.

I'd ususally suggest that the bug reporter retest and close as WORKSFORME if the problem is no longer reproducible for them. Not sure about the duplicates, though...

We have 11 users in CC, so folks *please* test with LO master 7.1+, very easy with 1-file AppImage from https://libreoffice.soluzioniopen.com/daily-version/.

I just tested with LO master 7.1+ on Manjaro with Plasma 5.19.5, KDE Frameworks 5.73.0, and QT 5.15.0, and the problem does not replicate anymore. It hasn't for a while, though, so I don't know that it was a recent change made to LO.

I am getting this bug with LibreOffice 7.0.4.2 (ie current latest stable version) on Ubuntu 18.04 (with Unity)

In my system, if I initialise LO by opening a file from Thunderbird, I get the doubled menus. If open a file by double-clicking in Nautilus, I *don't* get the doubled menus.

As noted in bug 124192, there may be cases where the doubled menus issue arises in GTK/Unity-based systems, as distinct from KDE, perhaps?
Comment 15 Timur 2021-06-09 07:21:09 UTC
John, advice was to test 7.1, from PPA or Appimage.
