Description Steve DM 2011-02-18 12:09:10 UTC
Created attachment 43528 [details]
Attachment is a twelve-page document file in ODT format.

Brochures want to print legal size.
I am using Windows 2000 Home Edition with SP2 on a Compaq-Presario with a 2.30 GHZ AMD Athlon 64 processor.
When I try to print a Brochure on letter size paper, sometimes it prints letter size, and sometimes it prints legal size. My paper choice using Paper/Quality setting 'Letter' has no effect.
Today I printed a first pass of a ten-page brochure with no problems. When I printed the second pass in reverse order the problem was there.
The problem occurs with OOo 3.3 and LibO 3.3; problem was not present in OOo 2.3.
By the way, I have used OOo since probably version 0.7. You guys are the greatest.
The brochure is attached.

We have some other problems reported that might be related (prints wrong pages, ...), or the same
(Bug 34380 - PRINTING - Brochure printing incorrectly changes paper size to 'Legal'),
but to decide that, we need much more and much more precise information.
A first quick test with "LibreOffice 3.3.1 RC1 – WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) German UI [OOO330m19 (build 7 / tag 3.3.1.1)]" ans OJ6110 did not confirm the reported problem, modifications in LibO print dialog on 'General > Printer Properties > Paper/Quality - Paper Options' showed expected results.

For now I will set a "depends on"!

@Steve DM:
Thank you for the flowers :-)
May be hints on <http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport> can help you to collect some more of required information??
Then please:
- Attach screenshots with comments (you can add information using LibO DRAW
and then attach your screenshot with comments as PDF)
- Contribute
-- a step by step instruction containing every key press and every
mouse click how to reproduce your problem
It is very important to list all details concerning your settings,
(fit to paper size?), especially where you choose them (printer dialog,
     LibO print dialog,
     page size dialog ...
- add information
-- what exactly is unexpected: Wrong No of Pages, wrong filling of paper with
     text, wrong paper slot selection?
-- concerning your printer and printer driver
-- whether that problem also is visible with a PDF printer like FreePDF or
     PDFCreator
  -- concerning your LibO localization
  -- how you launch LibO
-- everything else crossing your mind after you read a.m. URL

This is a follow up to my Bug Report 34458 in which I reported the following:
*Brochures want to print legal size.
Today I printed a first pass of a ten-page [should have written twelve-page, not that it matters] brochure with no problems. When I printed the second pass in reverse order the problem started.
The problem occurs with OOo 3.3 and LibO 3.3; problem was not present in OOo 2.3.*

First, the problem(s) that I describe are generated identically by both LibreOffice 3.3 and OpenOffice 3.3. I start both suites by clicking on their icons which were placed on my

Desktop by their Setup programs. I then load the ODT file by choosing it with File>Recent Documents.

I choose the ODT file, then I click File>Printer Settings>I choose Printer HP Deskjet 5700 Series (HPA)>Properties>Paper Size>Letter>OK>OK. I then click on File>Printer Settings>Options>Left pages, Right pages, Brochure>Ok

I then click on File>Print>Print.

The resulting printed pages appear as in Attachment I. It looks like the printer expects to have Legal size paper in the feed (i.e., input) tray.

To verify that the Brochure would print correctly on Legal size paper, I printed a first pass on Legal size. I then manually reversed the pages and printed a second pass. The printed page order was incorrect: the first page printed on the reverse side of the last page. I reprinted a first pass followed by a second pass without manually reversing the pages. In this
case the page order was again incorrect: the last page, in this case the twelveth (12th) page printed on the opposite side of the seventh (7th) page instead of the eleventh (11th). So it isn't just a case of the program choosing the wrong size paper!

Next, I checked that my Properties and Options settings have not changed and I click on File>Print>General>Options>Print to File>Print to File which generates a PRN file. I then use the program 'prfile32v2.1.6' to print the PRN file on the HP Deskjet 5700. Again the printout exceeds the paper size. See Attachment I for an example of the printed output.

Next, I check that my Properties and Options settings have not changed and I click on File>Export as PDF. The resulting PDF document is generated one page per sheet of letter size paper, not as a brochure (i.e., two pages per sheet of paper).

Finally, I check that my Properties and Options settings have not changed, but I change my printer setting to 'doPDFv71Build330.' I then print my ODT file which generates another PDF file.

When I click on the resulting second PDF file I find that it is indeed in Brochure format but it is made up of 17.00 x 11.00 inch pages which my printer cannot handle. See Attachment II. Please note also that left and right page pairings are correct, but front and back printing, whether the second pass is reversed or not, will not yield a properly paged Brochure.

Sometime this week I plan to install LibO_3.3.1rc2_Win_x86 and see how it handles Brochures.

Thank you,

Steve Martin

I beleive this one is a DUP of Bug 34380 - PRINTING - Brochure printing incorrectly changes paper size to 'Legal'

@reporter:
Please feel free to reopen this Bug if you find evidence that we have an independent issue here.

Bjorn:

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The pages print okay, but
not in the correct order. Printing the second set of pages in reverse
order gives a new page order as expected, but it is still not correct.
Apparently the algorithm to determine page order is incorrect. How can
I help you?

Steve
