Description Alejandro Moreno 2011-03-14 03:55:52 UTC
If you insert an object in a file and export it to pdf, the object is not
attached in pdf.

It would be a good idea that objects that are inserted in a file are added as attachments to export to pdf.

Design team: this request was self-confirmed 10 years ago and lacked a proper description. However, it seems to be about OLE objects.
Comment 3 Heiko Tietze 2021-01-26 13:56:58 UTC
If I add a OLE objects whether internal formats such as Chart or as file, in both cases the content is exported to PDF as seen on the document.

Test document

If you open the document on Libreoffice you can see that have an OLE object test.txt and you can open it.

If you export to pdf, in the pdf you could see an icon but you can not get test.txt attach into pdf.

The original attachment contains dummy text and an **icon** which if double-clicked opens another Writer document with further dummy text

Export to PDF with MSO

Confirming. However, when I export with MSO the embedded object is taken into the document. Makes me wonder what expectation users may have thinking about more complex objects. Isn't our approach more WYSIWYG than this unpleasing solution?
Comment 12 Heiko Tietze 2022-10-04 07:45:07 UTC
Miklos, what do you think about exporting embedded objects?
Comment 13 Miklos Vajna 2022-10-04 15:42:47 UTC
Loosing less data during PDF export sounds like a reasonable improvement, if somebody wants to work on this.
Comment 14 rik 2022-10-10 12:57:21 UTC
I can add to this that I tried today to insert a spreadsheet-file as an OLE object in a LO writer document, and that it works in Writer (i can open the document by double clicking on the icon in the file), but after exporting to PDF, this no longer works. Double clicking the icon in the resulting PDF does nothing. All other hyperlinks work correctly.

using LO 7.3.6.2 on Kubuntu

Still the case in recent master build:

Version: 24.2.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: beaea2e992912b4747d790070b26371f557b1f57
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Same in OOo 3.3, so inherited.
