On linux (kubuntu 10.10 64bit) To reproduce 1) open attached file (test-transparency.png) with firefox (or another web browser, or the gimp) 2) Copy the image 3) Paste it into a libreoffice drawing or presentation See that transparent part of the image become black. IMHO this is a nasty bug since it hinders the possibility of copying images from the web onto a presentation... one of the first experiments that one attempts to try a presentation program.

Maybe related to Bug 36097. In 36097 the transparency becomes white. Here the transparency becomes black.
Indeed, reproduced.
I am started to wonder whether this is a bug in libreoffice or a bug in the X clipboard. I seem to have the same issue when copying images with a transparent background from the web to the gimp. I wonder if this should be sent to the X developers instead. Any ideas? Does copying of images with transparency work on windows?
I just made some test: - On Linux (Debian testing with some packages from unstable): If I copy a PNG with transparency from Iceweasel 4.0.1 to LibreOffice 3.3.2 the resulting image has a black background, and the same happens with Opera and Epiphany. Instead, it works (correctly retaining transparency infos) using Google Chrome (but I think Chrome copies image URL only, not the whole PNG). Saving the image from Iceweasel to disk and then inserting from file works. - On WINDOWS XP: copying an image from Firefox to OpenOffice (sorry...) causes black background, while copying the same from Internet Explorer retains transparency correctly. - If I try to copy the PNG image from Firefox\Iceweasel to Inkscape (on Linux), it works correctly. But... on Windows, copying the same PNG from Firefox to MS Word 2007 causes the same black background that happens in LibreOffice!
