Description Tobias Burnus 2011-05-09 02:57:40 UTC
Follow up to bug 34305 comment 2.

The DOCX file at https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=394228
(https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=645557) contains ActiveX controls.

Both LibreOffice and Word(Viewer) 2003 with OOX compatibility extension render the ActiveX controls - or rather the replacement WMFs. Screen shot, see attachment 43703 [details].

However, as Noel Power wrote in bug 34305 comment 2:

"the display of the wmf images, after looking a little deeper these images
should not be shown at all. These are replacement graphics for activex
controls. But of course these controls are unsupported and infact are controls
that are hidden. Unfortunately we since we don't import these controls we don't
 release they are hidden :-/"

Expected: By default the replacement images are not shown, though they probably should be shown if hidden elements are shown (cf. bug 34620).

Talking about DOCX import, this issue is (at least at the surface) a Writer issue, therefore changed the 'Component' field accordingly.

Still occurs with Libre Office 3.6.0.4.

Test case:

Screen shot with LO:

Screenshot with MS Office 2010: See just attached file.

Currently: The ActiveX controls (or rather the replacement WMFs) are shown.

Expected: By default the replacement images are not shown, though they probably
should be shown if hidden elements are shown (cf. bug 34620).

For me, MS Office 2010/Windows looks like in attachment 65551 [details] – and in LO 3.6/Linux I get the result of attachment 65607 [details]: Namely, the replacement rendering of the ActiveX controls (red encircled in the screenshot).

That's also with View|{hidden paragraphs,fields,control characters,markings} disabled.

On MS Office 2010/Windows, those are hidden, i.e. they are only shown after doing the following: "On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click Show/Hide." (Namely, clicking on the pilcrow ("¶") icon.)

In MS Office 2010, when the pilcrow is pressed and the controls are shown: If one selects the controls and then opens the "Font" dialog, one sees that "Hidden" is enabled.
