It is simply too much trouble to open Navigator, find the bookmarks, open the + symbol, then find the appropriate bookmark. As a workaround, users highlight the text to bookmark and remove the highlights later. This sometimes introduces bugs when printing or updating the text.
A better solution might be one of the following: 1) A full bookmarks menu, such as that found in a web browser. In my opinion this would be overkill, though. 2) View -> Bookmarks -> A list of all the bookmarks and an item "Add bookmark here". 3) A toolbar button with a list of all the bookmarks and an item "Add bookmark here". 4) Something else
Hi Dotan, A quick access to the bookmarks in the document already exists: right-click on the statusbar, just right of the page number (which is bottom left). So I think it is pretty safe to close this as a "works for me" ?
Thank you Cor. That feature is completely undiscoverable. If there were a bookmark icon in the same location that would accept a right-click then I would agree that it is a usable, if not hard to find, feature. But as it currently exists it seems more of an easter egg than a feature. No user could be expected to find that on her own.
The function is well documented in the Help http://help.libreoffice.org/Writer/Page_Number and I have seen some more about it. But indeed, as with so many things in an office, you have to learn it. That said: if you prefer to keep this open as an enhancement, of course no problem. But I expect that devs prefer other tasks, so I set it to low.
[This is an automated message.] This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases. > The function is well documented in the Help > If that is the retort then it is obviously not intuitive to find! Here are some suggestions: 1) A full bookmarks menu, such as that found in a web browser. In my opinion this would be overkill, though. 2) View -> Bookmarks -> A list of all the bookmarks and an item "Add bookmark here". 3) A toolbar button with a list of all the bookmarks and an item "Add bookmark here".
Please, consider also to show bookmarks just like non-printable characters. See bug #45589 (enhc). It would avoid highlighting texts, as Dotan said. Best regards, Gilvan.
pls don't touch the version field :-) It indicates the version for which the issue (first) was found/created thanks
Oops, sorry for touching the version field...I didn't know about that. Best regards, Gilvan.

Closing this one as WORKSFORME as the navigator is now easy and naturally reachable/integrated in the sidebar.
