Description Allan Jacobs 2011-10-17 20:40:04 UTC
The Tools menu in Calc has items:
(1) Run Macro...
(2) Organize Macros
(3) Digital Signature
(4) Organize Dialogs...

The Tools->Organize Macros menu has items:
(1) LibreOffice Basic
(2) Python

Use the Help dialog. Navigate
Macros and Programming->General Information and User Interface Usage->LibreOffice Basic Help.

Click on "Recording a Macro". This brings up a page that says it is possible to "Choose Tools->Macros->Record Macro."

Has the macro recording feature been removed from the product? Has the menu item stranded it so it cannot be used? Or, is this just a documentation problem?
Comment 1 Allan Jacobs 2011-10-22 19:06:32 UTC
In Calc:
1  Tools->Customize
2 Menus tab
3 Menu: Tools | Macros

The Menu Content list has entries:

* Record Macro
  Run Macro...
  Organize Macros
  Digital Signature
  -----------------------------------------------
  Organize Dialogs...

The "Record Macro" entry has a red icon to it's left.

I tried a work around

4 Choose Calc (radio button)
5 Change to the Keyboard tab
6 Click on Shift+F9
7 Choose Category: BASIC
8 Choose Function: Record Macros
9 Modify
10 Click on Shift+F10
11 Choose Category: BASIC
12 Choose Function: Record Macros
13 Modify
14 OK

But Stop Macro seems not to work.

1 Tools > Options...
2 In the Options dialog: LibreOffice > General
3 Enable experimental (unstable) features: check

This enables the Record Macro menu item.

Is this a documentation bug? Downgrading to Normal severity.
Comment 3 Markus Mohrhard 2012-01-07 20:08:11 UTC
Recording macros is an experimental feature because it is not stable.
Comment 4 sasha.libreoffice 2012-04-13 23:53:28 UTC
In 3.5.2 it still considered as experimental. On Windows too. In Help is still nothing about experimental option.
Comment 5 kaesezeh 2012-07-15 17:34:09 UTC
same here:
LibreOffice 3.5.4.2
Build ID: 350m1(Build:2)
on a LinuxMint 12 (lisa) machine
Comment 6 Patrick Oltmann 2012-07-26 16:46:20 UTC
LibO 3.6.0 rc2 has a separate box to activate macro recording:

Tools->Options->LibreOffice->General->Enable macro recording (limited)

However, the help dialog still does not mention that this option exists and
that it is disabled by default. Since this is not specific for Calc (but also affects Writer) I consider this a documentation bug, hence the change in the component.
Comment 7 sasha.libreoffice 2012-07-27 15:02:53 UTC
Thanks for additional testing and information
"Version" is most old version where bug appears. Not current version.
Changing back to 3.4.3
Comment 8 Marc Weber 2012-10-22 16:21:01 UTC
Why not unconditionally show the menu item "Record Macro" and when clicked tell the user that he/she has to enable experimental features?

OpenOffice does show that menu item, libre office does not - if you don't use google (which luckely quickly shows this thread) - you think its not available anymore. Then you don't even need to modify the help
Comment 9 Julien Nabet 2012-12-08 14:52:04 UTC
Marc: Macro recording is too experimental for the moment.
You can read for example http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/PATCH-Give-Macro-recorder-separate-option-apart-from-Experimental-features-tp3989316p3991000.html
