Description ryan.jendoubi@gmail.com 2011-12-07 23:18:31 UTC
Specifically, the system shortcuts for inserting Unicode characters.

On Linux the combination is "Ctrl+Shift+U, <unicode-number>, Enter".

The equivalent shortcuts for other types should also be added.

Should be added where? Marking as NEEDINFO until we get a bit more details about what you're requesting.
1. Where should we add this?
2. What shortcuts? WHat are "common", what "other types"?

Thanks for being patient, depending on where you want this added, might not be hard to implement

May be description should be as this:

In LO we have ability to insert any character into document using Insert->Special character. But it is very slow. We should have ability to assign inserting of certain characters to keyboard shortcuts. It will greatly increase typing of some kind of document.
We ask for implementing ability to assign characters on keyboard shortcuts.

BTW: I used this ability in msWord 97 in 90-th years. Very useful thing. In Writer I have Basic macro for this.

For example I need to type characters ў and Ў. I will assign ў to Alt-y and Ў to Alt-Shift-y. And type then very fast.
Also useful to assign Roman digits to shortcuts for type them from non-latin keyboard layout.

I was talking about https://help.libreoffice.org/Common/Inserting_Special_Characters, but reflecting on things again now, I can appreciate that it's out of scope to expect the LO documentation to detail platform-specific keyboard shortcuts for inserting Unicode characters - albeit that those are very useful to know.

What I described above as a Linux shortcut is probably a Gnome shortcut.

sasha.libreoffice@gmail.com really brought up a different issue, which should probably be a separate feature request.

Sorry for the clutter.

Cheers,
