What would be the advantages of using 1.5? Note that PDF/A-1 is based on 1.4
Comment 2 Fernand 2012-02-22 02:11:20 UTC
indeed, 1.4 is OK for transparencies
PDF is advancing quikcly in Professional envoriments, latest Adobe products are 1.8 or 1.9 ?

I would even suggesting to use 1.7 Extension Level 8, it's the latest one

Again, what are, in concrete terms, the advantages? And no, "because the numbers are bigger" doesn't cut it. ;)

Maybe it doesn't count, but it's good to have modern version.

Anyway, even if we would like use the new version, we would need to add/rewrite a lot of things.

See e.g. this http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/tree/vcl/source/gdi/pdfwriter_impl2.cxx#n1333

Moreover, if we look on this file http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/tree/vcl/source/gdi/pdfwriter_impl.cxx and search for "todo" we will see how much work it would be.(what i wrote above).

Can we mark this as WONTFIX with a whiteboard status of PATCHESWELCOME. This way we acknowledge it most likely won't be done but if a developer ever has free time (haha...?) they can take a look at this and see if they can come up with a patch?

Yeahhh well, of course. This was just an idea to improve LO.
Have no problems with it. Do so please.

Yeah and I definitely understand the appeal of using latest software but in this particular case it just seems like a ton of work for little (relative), real value. Thanks for the input
