Description martinebeling 2012-07-06 05:36:15 UTC
Hello,

Today I opened a document in Writer that I had been working on for quite a while now and realized that all footnotes had disappeared! That is the digits were still there. However, everything I had written into the footnotes had vanished.

Much work has gone into this document and this obviously sucks. If there is any way to recover the footnotes, please help me to do so!!

THANKS!!

A pitty to read.
We have a special section for user support
   http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/

With better information from your side, we might be able to locate a possible bug.
E.g.

Is it possible to share the file?
If not, what type of file is it? (.odt, .doc)
History maybe (recent, old .sxw, or old .doc, or...)
Special content, e.g. thousands pages, hunderds of tables/images (not that is should matterd, but hey...)
thanks!

I just did a test with .docx footnotes and it worked flawlessly (Build ID: 350m1(Build:2).

Please upload a document to display the behavior, until then I'm going to mark it as NEEDINFO. If it's classified then just give as much information as possible about the document (what software created this document, how many pages, did it ever work?....as much as possible).

Thanks for helping us pinpoint this one, hopefully we can find the problem

document with missing footnotes

Thank you for your efforts and empathy!
I've attached the file. Please don't publish any of this under your name ;)
I believe that I created the .docx file in OpenOffice which I used when I was still running Windows 7. After the switch to Ubuntu, I used the LibreOffice that came with it (and appears to be the same?!). The document worked fine until, quite some time after the switch, one day all of the footnotes disappeared. So I guess it has nothing to do with the history of the document but is a random fluke maybe...
thanks again!

Is there any way you can attach the document with footnotes so then I can save it as a .docx and see the footnotes disappear. I'm not sure if this alone will give the information that is needed for the developers to get it fixed.

Since this is marked as Needinfo for a long time, I suggest this be marked as Resolved - Duplicate of Bug 58086 - FILESAVE: Some footnotes lost after filesave to docx.

If bug 58086 is fixed and it turns out that patch doesn't fix this same behavior, pleasen reopen this bug.
