Description russell shaw 2012-07-23 04:25:57 UTC
Problem description:
Pasting cells from scalc spreadsheet to swriter word processor results in blank object (all content lost).

Steps to reproduce:
1.
drag mouse to select an array 3-wide x 4-deep cells in spreadsheet that have writing in them (highlights in pale blue)

2.
right-click on highlighted area, select "copy"

3.
in a word-processor document, left-click to place cursor, right-click and select "paste"

Current behavior: Results in blank object of same size dimensions

Expected behavior: Should get object of same size dimensions, containing the spreadsheet text. This used to work in an older version.

Platform (if different from the browser): recent debian-unstable

Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:15.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/15.0

Update: I found Ctrl-Shift-V for pasting works, but you have to choose the format to paste. It would be good to have a working one chosen by default, instead of resulting in a blank object.

Reporter's observations more or less reproducible with "LibreOffice 3.5.5.3. German UI/Locale [Build-ID: 7122e39-92ed229-498d286-15e43b4-d70da21] on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit), but effect I see seems to be completely different. For me simply the view window on the object has wrong focus, does not show contets, but empty cells nearby. That's a very ole problem, I thought we would already have a report for that, but currently I only find one for the other direction: "Bug 44838 - FORMATTING: Position, size, word wrap wrong for WRITER OLE Object in CALC".

@russell shaw:
I doubt that all contents is lost. I know such a problem when copying some cells from the end of the contents of a big spreadsheet (for example X1000:Z1005). The contents is pasted, but focus in Writer on OLE object is wrong, an empty cells area will be shown. Please check, I am pretty sure that you will find the contents in the OLE object outside the small view window.

If not, please attach a test kit with source spreadsheet and Writer result (zipped into 1 file).

Is this a new observation for you or already in more early LibO versions?
