Description BrendaEM 2012-09-03 22:47:50 UTC
After using the Firefox plugin for grab and drag, it occurs to me what a great feature this would be for Writer:

You hold down the middle mouse button (another bound mouse or key), and you can drag the page up, down, or sideways. The movement would be proportional to the mouse movement. There are many times, such as when reading and proofreading, when grabbing the page and dragging it would be much less disorienting, and paging or arrow-keys, as the user would not have to find their place after a page movement.

[This ability also exists in programs such as Photoshop, accessed through the use of a held space bar. To try it for visualization: open a large image, zoom in, hold spacebar, drag mouse.]

(For extra credit: coasting.)

Thank you for your consideration, and working on LibreOffice,
Brenda Make

Might be handy for spreadsheets, too.

(Improved Component: because this is a UI feature request both for Writer and for Calc -- comment #1 --, the right component is "UI".)

Please implement this feature, as it will be one of the determining factors separating a modern desktop application from an antiquated one. Please do not wait for other applications to implement this on the desktop.

This may not be a simple change, but it is a very important one. For all the flash-in the pan changes made in software lately, why not implement an improvement that makes sense. What UI improvement could be better one that lets the user navigate your document with less disorientation?

As a feature, I ask that the importance be raised.

Thank you,
Brenda Make

I requested this more than 4 years ago.

Why should anyone help suggest anything to help?!
This is worthy of a good slashdot'ing.
