Is it possible to display the total number of pages in a document directly in the menu or status bar, without having to insert a page number field in the footer?

I find this very useful when I receive a document as it lets me immediately see how many pages I have to read. It's also helpful before printing, so I know how many pages will be printed.

If I remember correctly, Microsoft Word displays this information in the status bar at the bottom of the window.
