Description ffs 2012-10-05 19:47:47 UTC
When inserting movies into l;ibre office the default is to link them unless the tickbox "link" is unchecked <every> time.

There appears to be no way to "uncheck" link once the movies has been inserted (actaully for me there appears to be no way to do anything with the movie once inserted at all except play it during presentation mode).

This appears to be a bug or significant ommision since the only way to test if it is embedded or linked is to save it and transfer it to another machine without the movies and load it again to see if they are there.

I understand that automatically embedding "movies" is probablty a bad idea but my experience of using this I think reflects the mainstream in that I always want to embed the movies and never link them because the disk storage penalty is trivial compared with the embarrasement of turning up at a conference and discovering 1/2 my presentation is missing.

(1) please provide a few more "this is what the file is, this is where it is stored" typr controls for these objects

(2) please allow the "link" option to be uncheck once the movie is inserted - it is really annoying to have to delete the move and reinsert it to fix this

and (feature request coming)

(3) please put a "save with all media embedded" option into "save" which will allow people like me to work with linked media on my desktop and then easily save to a stick or laptop without fear of half my content being absent when I give the talk.

Should I have missed these features in 3.5 then change my bug report to "none of these options are at all obvious"!

Thanks!

ps powerpoint has this capability (allows links and saving with embedded media).
Roll on the day when okular behaves itself well enough for beamer to be used with movies!

I'd like to add that if you drag and drop or cut and paste a movie into impress it is entirely unclear if this is embedded or linked (and as before there appears to be no way to check or change this).

duplicate of bug 32581 ?

> duplicate of bug 32581 ?

Not quite a duplicate but similar - I think some of the specifics here apply only to the linux version (AFAIK movies can't be embedded in the windows version).

- this report calls for some way to manage the properties
- this report extends the problem to drop n drop and cut n paste
- this report calls for a save as (with embedded media)

Seems a reasonable triage to me, thanks

On pc Debian x86-64 with master sources updated today, I could reproduce this.
Moreover (https://ggstreetview.com), I didn't see the difference of action between the first and the second icon indicated in the Subash's attachment.
Also, other elements in the bottom bar have no help messages (even in en-US UI).
