Description John Smith 2012-11-28 21:29:29 UTC
Created attachment 70757 [details]
Text document with three images showing grammar checker enabled, spell check not enabled no error, spell check enabled error indicated.

Problem description: The grammar checker (check grammar as you type)enabled by default at installation in Tools-Options-Language Settings-Writing Aids-Options will not work unless the optional AutoSpellcheck (check spelling as you type)is also enabled.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Deselect AutoSpellcheck in the Standard toolbar. Type a sentence in a new document with a grammar error in it. For example 'A apple is nice', or a double space between two words.
2. The grammar error should be indicated by a blue wavy line under the error. It is not.
3. Enable the AutoSpellcheck by selecting it in the Standard toolbar. A blue wavy line now appears under the error.

Current behavior:No error indication even though enabled, unless spell checking enabled too.

Expected behavior:Indication of grammar errors without also enabling spell checking.

Operating System: Windows XP

reproducible with LO 4.0.2.2 (Win7 Home, 64bit)

But I would see this more as an enhancement request but not as a bug per se.

I feel that if a user has selected to have the grammar checked as he types, but not to show spelling errors by deselecting the spell checker, then the grammar check should be done and errors displayed. This ought to be standard behaviour for the selections made.

WONTFIX in my opinion.

The spell-check flag disables the entire feature (since both are essentially the same thing). I can't imagine why you would want to be alerted about grammar errors but wouldn't want to be alerted about spelling errors.
