Created attachment 73918 [details] Image compression affects the image quality in exported pdf Reporting for 32-bit version of Windows 7, running on Pentium PC. I have a single-page odp file that contains two images and two callouts. I am trying to export it as pdf. But I am getting a strange result as follows: In the "Pdf options" window, "General" tab, "Images" section: 1. If I select the "lossless" radio button, the result is good. 2. If I select the "JPEG compression" radio button and set the compression to 90%, one of the two images is exported as green rectangle of the same size. The other image is exported fine. Attaching the original source (odp) file and exported pdf files.
Thanks for reporting! Can't reproduce using LibreOffice 4.0.0.2 rc2 with Linux Mint 14 x64. Both exported pdfs show same result, no green rectangle or missing image. Therefore I think it's OS related. Do you have any extensions installed? And to exclude it's an user profile problem, is it possible for you to reset your user profile (guide: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile#Resetting_the_user_profile)? I don't think it'll solve you problem, but I just want to be sure :-). Kind regards, Joren
Hello! Thanks for the rapid reply. I deleted the "4" folder in AppData folder, and then restarted LO. No change: The problem still exists. In fact, I forgot to mention that I am seeing this problem in two PCs that are different so far as CPU, chipset and motherboard are concerned; but both are running 32-bit Win7. I would not be surprised if this turned out to be specific to 32-bit version of Win7 (and not found even in 64-bit version of Win7). I have already come across a problem like that in 3.6.4, which existed in 4.0.0.1 but vanished in 4.0.0.2 alpha, although it is not specifically mentioned in the change log. The obvious conclusion is people change code without mentioning it in the change log; and some of it is even rolled back; again without a mention. :(
BTW I don't have any extensions installed in both the PCs: This is a plain vanilla installation (just the LO and the help).

Thanks for your time testing this! Is this a regression (I mean, worked all these functions with an older version of LibreOffice)? > I would not be surprised if this turned out to be specific to 32-bit version > of Win7 (and not found even in 64-bit version of Win7). Mmh, I haven't seen THAT specific yet... but that's not impossible off course. And true, not all problems are written down. The (core) devs are aware of problems/bugs that aren't mentioned yet by users. Therefore they fix it just right away when they have time for it, without opening a bug report and mention it in the change logs. > The obvious conclusion is people change code without mentioning it in the > change log; and some of it is even rolled back; again without a mention. :( We are fortunately aware of that. But as far as the devs try they only revert codes that make things worse than before... I don't think they'll invest their time to fix things, and after that 'just' revert it back. There are good reasons for that :-). Okay, all these said ... I still can't confirm this. Is it possible to attach your odp document so we can try to reproduce exactly with the same document as you did? Unless the document is confidential of course (if so, feel free to mail it to my email in private). Kind regards, Joren
The odp file is already part of the zip that I posted with the bug. @Regression: I never had this problem earlier. But I haven't explicitly checked this particular file with an older version.
I don't understand what the issue is. I downloaded the compressed stuff, looked at the two pdf's side by side and they look identical.....also, can you give explicit reproducible steps?
(In reply to comment #6) > I don't understand what the issue is. I downloaded the compressed stuff, > looked at the two pdf's side by side and they look identical Mmmh ... now you say :p ... Don't see any differences either ... >.....also, can you give explicit reproducible steps? Well, I'd think spotting the difference between the two pdf's was easy, especially when I explicitly stated that one of the images is exported as "green rectangle". :D * The "Image export -lossless.pdf" file shows two screenshots. * In the "Image export -90%.pdf" file, there is a green rectangle instead of the second figure. The way to reproduce the problem is described clearly: When you set the export option to "JPEG compression", you get the problem. (The 90% compression is set as default- I haven't changed that.) I can consistently reproduce this problem in two different PCs with totally different hardware, but both running 32-bit version of Windows 7. However, depending on your OS, you may or may not be able to reproduce the problem.

I do not see a green rectangle in the PDF's at all. I see your second attachment but in the PDF's that you attached, both look identical (I'd clearly see the difference). Please open the two pdf's that you attached here and see for yourself that there is no green box.
Hi Joren and Joel, I had opened the files in FireFox to confirm the issue. But after getting your feedback, I realized that the bug could be in the pdf reader (I use pdf x-change viewer, which is a popular alternative for Adobe pdf reader.) And indeed this is so: The file does not have this issue in other pdf reader. (Since FireFox uses an addon of x-change viewer, it is bound to face the same problem! This is what confused me earlier.) I will raise the bug with tracker-software (the creators of the pdf x-change viewer). This bug may please be closed as worksForMe. (I cannot select that status.) Thanks for your efforts!
oops- found it, and changed the status myself.
From comment #11 correct status is NotOurBug. Best regards. JBF
