Created attachment 75623 [details] archive with xml file from Birt Report (with .xls extension) that could not be opened LibreOffice Version 4.0.1.1 (Build ID: 2c0c17a6e4bee0ee28131ea4bdc47edc700d659) Russian UI/Locale on Russian Windows XP Professional SP3 (32bit) If we try to open attached file (it is xml file from Birt Report with .xls extension) in LibreOffice, "General input/output error." occurs. In LibreOffice with or without Java installed file could not be opened, LibreOffice do not ask to install or activate use of Java and always crashes with "General input/output error." after about 1 minute 10 seconds on Dual-core E5300 CPU. CPU usage before crash is about 50% in LibreOffice Calc. Apache Open Office 3.4.1 Final without Java shows warning (translated from russian) "To perform this task Openoffice.org needs installed Java environment. The use of Java has been disabled. Would you allow the use of Java?" "Yes" or "No". If we select "No", we see General I/O error. If we select "Yes", AOO tries to open file, but I waited for more then 25 minutes and file was not opened (but no crash occurs). AOO Calc hangs with about 100% CPU usage. In MS Office 2007 SP3 warning is shown (translated from russian) "The actual format of file is different from pointing to their file name extension. Before opening file, make sure it is not damaged and it is from a trusted source.", but file is opened without any problems after about 4 minutes 20 seconds.
I can reproduce this behavior using Linux Mint 14 x64 with LibreOffice 4.0.1.2. After a while (1 minute on my computer) A "General input/output error" appears. After that I need to force quit LibreOffice.
No crash in LibreOffice Version: 4.1.0.4 Build ID: 89ea49ddacd9aa532507cbf852f2bb22b1ace28 Russian UI/Locale on Russian Windows XP Professional SP3 (32bit) without Java installed. LibreOffice 4.1 tries to open file, but I waited for more then 25 minutes and file was not opened (CPU usage was about 50%, taskmanager showed that soffice.bin used about 380Mb of RAM).
*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 67699 ***
It's not a duplicate of bug 67699 for the following reasons: 1) It has been reported against 4.0, while bug 67699 is a regression of 4.1. 2) bug 67699 fixed for 4.1.2.2, while this bug still reproducible (tested on Fedora 19 64-bit) 3) Changing suffix to .xml doesn't solve the problem.
