Description Leandro Zipitria 2013-03-05 13:44:35 UTC
Problem description: I have a 400k document with some images inside. When I crete a pdf, the images growth larger and also the pdf file, which is now 3.2mb. This behavior was not present on the previous version of Libreoffice.

Steps to reproduce:
1. ....
2. ....
3. ....

Current behavior: large pdf file and images bigger on the pdf than in the doc file.

Expected behavior: both files have the same image

Could send png files in order to see the problem.

Operating System: Fedora
Version: 4.0.0.3 release

Thanks for your response!

I can reproduce this behavior. It's even worse on Mac OSX 10.8.2 using LibreOffice 4.0.1.2 rc. Exporting attached document result in a pdf that contains only the title. Not as your exported pdf with a zoomed-in snapshot of the corner of the table.

Therefore I mark this as
Critical: Can result in data loss if you send that pdf directly to others
Low: doesn't affect MOST or MANY users.

Kind regards,
Joren

Thanks for checking this. I must say that this do not happened with the previous version. I googled the problem and notice that there has been changes in the pdf processor as a result of low quality transformation of figures. In my case that was not a problem, and I think that this solution could have create this problem. Notice also that the dimension of the size pdf archive growth nearly 10 times the doc file, when traditionally pdf files are of the same or just lower size of the doc file.

Regards,
Leandro

Hy,

I have recently installed version 4.0.1 of LibreOffice, and the problem remains.

There is also a similar looking bug reported in 55345. It may be a duplicate.

In addition to pdf export, printing is also affected the same way.

According to my experience this started with version 3.6. All releases I tried after 3.5.7 have this defect. I think this is serious limitation for anyone working with windows metafile type images.

I agree with Adam, similar with Bug 55345 (scaling problem while exporting to PDF).

Reproducible on LO 4.0.4.2 (Win7 32bit)
Comment 11 Christopher POTTER 2013-07-11 10:59:31 UTC
if printing is also affected, priority of this bug (and similar 55345) should be raised very high

pdf output 4.1.0

still a bug with 4.0.4.2 with same PDF output as previously reported.

tested with 4.1.0 and the PDF output is still wrong but different from before.
see new attachment.

WORKSFORME

NoRepro:4.2.2.1:OSX

I see a complete PDF displaying all info at the right place with correct size.

While this is still far from perfect (pdf is still 1.2MB) and performance with PDF a little sluggish when zooming, I'd say quite a few of the previous issues that were reported are now gone.

Please check if now the PDF is exported with all text and if file size is somewhere below 2MB.

For the remaining issues I suggest creating new and separate (one issue per bug) reports.
