Description Steve Kelem 2013-04-19 22:24:33 UTC
I like to use the Navigator window to see the heading hierarchy for one section while creating another section that should have the same structure.
However, while typing in the editor window, the Navigator will change its viewpoint to match where I'm typing, but sometimes scroll the current line to the top of the Navigator window, destroying the view of previous sections that I had carefully scrolled to and wanted to view. Sometimes it scrolls the Navigator window so that the current line is above the Navigator view (and therefore not visible).

If "having the Navigator window track where the user is typing in the editor window" is important, then if the current line is visible anywhere in the Navigator view, why scroll the window? Why collapse other parts of the hierarchy? Just leave the view where it is!

Steve - please provide explicit steps for repeating what you're seeing. You have a nice description but you assume that anyone triaging the bug knows navigator and editor stuff.

Please provide enumerated steps with "expected results" and "observed result"

Marking as NEEDINFO, once you provide steps mark as UNCONFIRMED and we will investigate

Here's what I use:

* Writer: this is the editor window
* Navigator: Open with Writer Menu: View->Navigator or F5. This shows the document hierarchy.

Open the attached document and follow the step-by-step instructions in the document.

Hello

I reproduce on windows 7/64 with
Version: 4.1.3.2
Build ID: 70feb7d99726f064edab4605a8ab840c50ec57a
Version: 4.2.0.0.beta2
Build ID: 1a27be92e320f97c20d581a69ef1c8b99ea9885d

Typing in the document may close other heading levels in the tree view of the navigator

Steps to reproduce

1. Open the attached document
2. Open the navigator (menu View> Navigator or F5)
3. In then navigator, click on the "Content view" button (2nd row, 2nd button)
4. Expand all headings
5. Click in the document after "1.2 Experiment 1"

Only level 1 remains unfolded

Expected result : "1.2 Experiment 1" selected, treeview still expanded

Regards
Pierre-Yves

Dear Steve Kelem,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!

Warm Regards,
QA Team
