I I try to modify any paragraph/character style, Writer crashes immediately without leaving any error message behind. 

If I restart LibreOffice, it shows that the document is yet to be recovered. It allows me to recover the document, but all the latest changes are lost.

Perhaps resolution for Bug#55685 is not effective, because the beta-2 has the same issue.

We need more information here:
- do you have several LO version in parallel?
- did you upgrade from a previous version?
- did you install any LO specific extensions?

Could you try to rename your LO directory profile and give it a new try? (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile)

No, I NEVER run multiple versions in parallel.

Yes, I always uninstall the previous version of LO using control panel (first uninstall the help and then the LO).

In this case also I did that.

I have installed the following extensions for several months now:

Alternative searching 
DataForm 1.0.2
English spelling dictionaries, hyphenation rules, thesaurus, and grammar
French spelling dictionary. hyphenation rules, and thesaurus
Palo for OpenOffice 2.0.3
PortablePhotoAlbum-1.O.2.oxt 1.02
Presentation Minimizer 1.0.4
Solver for Nonlinear Programming 0.9
Spanish spelling dictionary. hyphenation rules, and thesaurus
Wiki Publisher

None of them has given any issues in the earlier versions of LO
I haven't installed any new extension that can be linked to these troubles.

I found two user profile folders in the AppData\Roaming path:

LibreOfficeDev\4\
LibreOffice\4\

I closed the LO (there was no quickstarter running), and deleted the "User" folders in both paths and restarted LO. 

I am still facing the same problems.

narayanaras: LO evolves and some extensions can become uncompatible.
Could you try raw method?
- uninstall LO
- delete any remaining directories in Program Files if any
- rename your LO directory profile
- clean your Windows registry with a free tool (eg: ccleaner)
- install LO (without any LO extensions)

I uninstalled the LO, deleted all user profiles and cleaned up the registry. Then did a clean install without any of the 10 Addons I had installed earlier.

The plain vanilla LO does not have this issue.

Probably the issue is in one of the Addons, or registry etc.
