Created attachment 81086 [details] the doc file which shows un-wanted new line was added in the header. Problem description: For a .doc file with header, extra un-wanted new line is added each time I edit and save. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a new .doc file with libreoffice writer; 2. add some header text, save the file; 3. open the file again, you'll see a new line was added in the header; 4. edit and save the file again, another new line is added in the header... This appears in LO 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 release. It's OK in LO 4.0.2.2 reldase It's OK in odt and docx format. Operating System: Ubuntu Version: 4.0.4.2 rc
Confirm reproducible on LO 4.0.4.2 (Win7 32bit) This behavior happen if we insert fields by: Menu: Insert > Fields > Date/Time/PageNumber etc Not happen if we only insert texts on header. > It's OK in LO 4.0.2.2 reldase It's a regression ?

Based on your description, I also tested to insert fields into the *body text*, and found the same un-wanted new line. It's not happen if there are extra text following the inserted field. So, this behaviour happen only if: * Insert fields (date/time/pagenumber...) in a doc file; and * The inserted field is the last char (i.e., no more extra text followed).

You're right. So workaround (from Bug 64989) is to add a blank space or character after field. Probably this is duplicate of Bug 64989
