Description elgossar 2013-10-01 09:24:07 UTC
Go to "Bullets and Numbering", in the "Options" tab.

Currently, you can choose to allow continuous numbering for all levels, wich makes it so that each new title gets the next number of the one before, unregarding their respective levels.

Example of the current behaviour :

I. Title 1
2. Title 2
3. Tilte 2

IV. Title 1
5. Title 2
6 Title 2

Expected behaviour : one should be allowed to get a consecutive numbering WITHIN the same level.

Example of expected behaviour :

I. Title 1
1. Title 2
2. Title 2

II. Title 1
3. Title 2
4. Title 2

As you can see, level 1 is not affected by the consecutive numbering within level 2.

Thanks for your attention.

Hi Elgossar,
thanks for writing the issue.
If I get your suggestions well, I would say that this is already available directly with list styles. Format > Styles and formatting .. 5th button top left: list styles.

Select your text and double click on serveral of the names in the panel, to see their effects. Rght-click on a name for Changeing.
If you have any questions, can you pls look for support here first:

Pls let me know if that helps.

Cor

Hi Cor,

Indeed, you did get my suggestion quite well. Your advice resolved my problem brilliantly, and I thank you warmly for that.

Nonetheless, I think that this is a tricky way to do it, because it doesn’t connect with the title’s style. In fact, everytime I add a new title that I want consecutive, I have to apply the style "Title 2" to trigger automatic numbering, AND i also have to apply the list style "Numbering 1".

In other words, your solution doesn’t actually allow continuous numbering within the same level, it only allows to isolate the desired level in a separate style that isn’t affected by other titles.

This is why I keep thinking that allowing "Continuous numbering within the level" in the "Bullets and numbering"’s options would be a fine enhancement.

Thanks again for your help and your attention.

In that case you need Tools > Outline formatting :)

Pls see the user Help I mentioned. There are many people with a great variety of skills that can point the right directions. Regards,
