Description Mihkel Tõnnov 2014-01-24 18:17:27 UTC
If I paste several paragraphs of text into a Writer document, it becomes unresponsive for several seconds (proportionally to the length of pasted text, it seems). Gets annoying quickly if one has to rearrange paragraphs in a larger document.

LibreOffice 4.2.0 RC3 on Debian Linux, packages from TDF.

Regression from 4.1.
Comment 1 Mihkel Tõnnov 2014-01-24 18:38:17 UTC
OK, this is much more than just copy-pasting -- Writer is dead slow, pretty much whatever I do.
1) I have text (< 1 page) in three columns, with two manual column breaks inbetween. When I press Enter anywhere, Writer gets unresponsive and CPU load spikes.
2) When I edit page margins from the sidebar, Writer lags several seconds behind, with high CPU load. Plus it seems I can't directly enter the margin values there, only scroll for some reason.
3) When I copy-paste anything, Writer thinks for a second before doing anything.

This renders 4.2 basically unusable for me.

P.S.
Tried to set bug status as unconfirmed (as someone once asked me to), but there's no such choice.

Hi Mihkel, thanks for reporting.

Have you tried resetting user profile, sometimes solves strange issues.

@ mariosv:
Okay, renamed ~/.config/libreoffice, here are my findings.

1) Showed significant improvement until I enabled spell-checking (tried with bundled en-US speller and Estonian speller from http://www.filosoft.ee/freeware/#OpenOffice) -- after that it's again a bit laggy (a bit better than before resetting the profile, though).

2) Problem persists. It should have it's own bug report, probably.

3) Same as 1).

So it looks like something changed in LO between 4.1 and 4.2 that makes spellers work much slower. Editing bug description accordingly.

Setting this to unconfirmed (which has appeared in the Status box now :S ), hopefully someone else can confirm this bug.

@ marshals:
Nope, none.

Hello Mihkel,

Is this problem still happening with you in 4.2.5 or 4.3.0?
Comment 6 Joel Madero 2014-07-10 01:41:45 UTC
Lowering to major, critical is a bug that will affect most (if not all) of our users. This has yet to be confirmed and I see no evidence that it's affecting a wide range of users.

Just a quick comment: tried copying ~1000 words (~10 000 ch) worth of text with automatic (Estonian) spell-check enabled, and there was no longer any remarkable slowness in 5.0.0. Marking as WFM.
