Description gzbkfr 2014-04-13 11:22:38 UTC
Problem description:

When resizing an image, the current default behavior is some kind of "natural resizing" where the resizing follows exactly the mouse movement which will in most case end-up by a distorted image.

LibreOffice does not offer a sufficiently user friendly way to keep the image ratio.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Insert an image in a new writer document (Insert > Image > From a file
2. Resize it using the corner handles, the only way to avoid the image being distorted is to keep the shift key pressed on the keyborad while dragging the handle with the mouse, which a casual user cannot invent.

Current behavior:

For most users this "natural resizing" is not the expected one because a lot of other software and html wysiwyg editors keep the ratio by default when the user use the corners handler.

Currently LibreOffice propose a functionality to keep the image ratio for which the user is supposedly to use his both hands, pressing shift key on the keyboard while using the mouse to select and drag the handle without releasing the shift key... which may pose severe accessibility limitation for not computer friendly people and is counter-intuitive since a lot of casual users have no clue that the default resizing behavior can even be changed by maintaining the shift key pressed.

Expected behavior:

LibreOffice should let the end-user choose his expected behavior. There should be either an option in the configuration screen, but even better a button in the image toolbar which allows the end-user to choose between the two possible resizing behaviors without having to press some keys combination anymore:
- Current default behavior: using a corner handle to resize the image follows exactly the mouse movement, allowing the image to be flatten for instance,
- Keep ratio behavior: behavior currently only obtainable by using the shift key, ie. do not follow exactly mouse movement but keep exactly the image ratio.

Fixed in nightly already. Will be in 4.3 ircc.

Don't ask me where that original bug was, don't have the time for an extensive search right now.
