Description amiradarhanehedar 2014-05-17 18:29:27 UTC
Problem description: LibreOffice sometimes crashes when trying to operate it: creating a new document, accessing the settings or the "about" section, etc.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open LibreOffice
2. Try to create a new document or go to Help>About LibreOffice
3. Sometimes it will work, and sometimes it will crash

Current behavior: Unstable and crashy. Hard to work with.

Expected behavior: LibreOffice should perform the action requested without crashing.

I am using Linux Mint 17 RC 32-bit Cinnamon edition.

Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 4.2.3.3 release

I'm a Windows user and I've never experienced such issue.

I suggest to uninstall 4.2.3.3 then do a clean install of 4.2.4.2 which is the current up to date version and see if the situation improves.

I tried to remove this version and install 4.6.1, which I have gathered is a stable version. It did the same thing, although it worked without a problem on the previous version of my system. I tried changing the openjdk version from 7 to 6, but the problem persisted. Could it be because of the new version of Linux Mint?

Did you install any specific LO extensions?

For the test, could you rename your LO directory profile (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile) and give it a new try?

(BTW there's no 4.6 version yet for LO)

I have no LO extensions.

I have done that test, and the problem remains.

My mistake, I meant 4.1.6. Sorry. :)

Would it be possible you retrieve a backtrace? (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugReport/Debug_Information#GNU.2FLinux:_How_to_get_a_backtrace)
Even if it doesn't crash systematically, it seems you often get a crash anyway

Looks to me as a duplicate of Bug 78598.

After trying out more things, it appears that once I remove libreoffice-gtk, the crashes stop. So the gtk integration seems to be the culprit here.

Since the duplicate bug's details aren't clear to me, and I do not know how to apply the patch suggested there, I'm not sure how to proceed. At any rate, LO works for me now, even if it isn't looking its best, so that should be okay.

Solved!

Changing the gtk theme to the system default seems to have completely fixed the problem.
