Description Francisco 2014-07-18 22:40:37 UTC
Now a days, when there is a Chart object inserted (or copied&pasted) into any "ODX" file, it stores data tables which are visible through double click on chart and then select "View chart data" from the context menu.

In some cases, it could be useful to being able to reuse this data if one doesn't have the original source of the file, for any reason.

However, this data is presented in a table which is not possible to copy&paste it entirely into, for example, an ODS file (or even a text file). One has to copy every point individually, which could be easy for rather small amounts of data for really cumbersome in other cases.

It could be pretty useful if it were possible to directly export the data table from an individual Chart into another file, such as TXT or CSV. It could be more awsome it were possible to export that data into an ODS file *with* the same chart inside.

Bug 38212 describes something similar: it is not possible to copy a cell range from Calc into a Chart data table. If bug 38212 is finally solved, maybe this one could be marked as solved since since it could be possible to copy data from Chart into Calc. However, I think it would be easier to implement a TXT export.

@Francisco - what version are you running? I've tried with 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 and the Chart Data Table is always greyed out. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong.

You mind attaching a document that we can easily go to view -> chart data to confirm the enhancement request.

Thanks!

Hi Joel

Right now Im far away of any computer, so i cant attach any file. But, what I'm describing happens with any OOo/LibO version.

I'll try to describe which chart I refer to:

Generate a scatter chart in Calc
Copy it into Writer (it could be Imptess, though)
Double click on the chart, to activate it
Right click to open context menu
Select option "Chart data" (or something similar, cant remember right now in English)

That should open a new window with the data used for the chart.

Besides, it should also work directly whithin Writer/Impress/Draw using command "Insert->Object->Chart"

Regards

francisco

menu option to access chart data

@Joel

Is this the option you see greyed/deactivated?

chart data window

This is the chart data table, from one is able to edit the content of the chart when it's present in Writer, Impress or Draw (or even Calc in some cases).

Right now it's no simple way to export that data easily.IMHO, the best option could be being able to select all data in that table, as in any text table or like within Calc (clicking upperleft square) to copy it then.

Another option could be a button in the toolbar (because there isnt any menu) to export that data into an SVG, TXT, ODS, etc.

Hi Francisco, thanks for your test file, agreed that this is difficult to copy data by data out of the table of data. Set as New - Sophie
