I have experienced this before with documents at work: LO Writer-4.2.5 cannot import comment fields from .doc (and possibly .docx) files. http://mpeg.chiariglione.org/sites/default/files/files/standards/parts/docs/w14331.zip contains a file that shows the problem. The footer from page 1 doesn’t display data for the following fields: Document type: Document subtype: Document stage: Document language: Sorry for my poor description, but I think this issue is a burden for converting quite a few documents in corporate environments. Many thanks for your help, Pablo
OSX 10.9.4 LO 4.3RC3 While getting CPU spikes opening this .doc file, the footer on page 1 is there. When I open the test file with Word 2011, I see just what you wrote: Document type: Document subtype: Document stage: Document language: It is the same in word and LO. Not sure what the exact issue is now. Could you please post a screenshot with Word / LO side by side showing the difference and what you expect LO to do. Is this bug still valid / reproducible with the latest LO release? 4.3RC3: http://www.libreoffice.org/download/pre-releases/ Please also try resetting your user profile and let us know if that helps: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile Should this be still reproducible for you with the latest LO release please set this bug back to UNCONFIRMED. Should this issue be solved set it to WORKSFORME. Setting to NEEDINFO until more detail is provided.

I have tested the file with libreoffice-4-3~2014-07-21_10.49.42_LibreOfficeDev_4.3.1.0.0_Linux_x86_rpm.tar.gz (current nigthly build) and removing my old user profile. Although my previous report was too fuzzy, I’m afraid that the bug is legitimate. Screeenshots attached for Word 2003 and Writer 4.3dev. Updating fields is required in Word for them to be displayed (at least in Windows). Updating fields in Writer (also with F9) displays no text. Ctrl+F9 displays field names only.
@Pablo do you see the same issue either on Linux or Windows?
(In reply to comment #6) > @Pablo > do you see the same issue either on Linux or Windows? I cannot test the issue on Windows, since I don’t have administration rights on the Windows computer I can use. Maybe I can check the bug against the latest stable version in Windows next week. Sorry, but I only own a computer with Linux inside.

The footer from page 1 > doesn’t display data for the following fields: > > Document type: > Document subtype: > Document stage: > Document language: CONFIRMED on Ubuntu 12.04.4 + LO 4.3.0.3 The example file is kind of huge at 457 pages and 6.4MB. Would it be possible to chop down the example file to 1-2 pages and then upload it to Bugzilla?
(In reply to comment #8) > The example file is kind of huge at 457 pages and 6.4MB. Would it be > possible to chop down the example file to 1-2 pages and then upload it to > Bugzilla? As in comment #1, when displaying this file CPU goes to 100%, although this is not the issue of this bug report. I don’t see any problem in removing anything except the footer from the first page, but I’m on Linux and I’m afraid I don’t have access to a computer with Windows right now.

This bug is still present in LO 5.0beta1. Could it be fixed before the 5.0 stable release?

Bug stays the same in LO-5.2.1.2 (Fedora 23).
*** Bug 103952 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
There could be multiple issues here when opening DOC and DOCX: - from attachment 103647 [details]: LO displays text "Set variable VariableName1 Set variable VariableName2..." that it shouldn't - from attachment 103647 [details]: LO displays text "Show variable VariableName1", "Show variable VariableName2..." instead of just variable names - from simple test case with bookmark field references created in MS Word (both DOC or DOCX): LO shows "VariableName1" instead of defined variable name Looks like w:instrText field: http://www.officeopenxml.com/WPfieldInstructions.php.
