Description Albrecht Müller 2014-09-01 18:40:29 UTC
In the Numbering Style window it is difficult to see how the style looks like and it is easy to inadvertently change the style.

To see the problem, press F11 to get the Styles and Formatting window, and press the List Styles button. Right click on some style offered there and choose modify to open the Numbering Style window.

Depending on the tab that is shown you will have difficulties to determine what the style will do. Some tabs may show various styles, but it not clear which one is the current style. If you happen to press a cursor key you will see that some style is marked differently. You may not be aware that this action changed the style.

The expected behaviour is that this window always clearly shows how the current style looks like.

A solution to this problem could be to add a preview part to this window as shown in attachment 105321 [details] of bug 83071.

Observed with LibreOffice version 4.2.5.2 and Windows 7.

Valid enhancement request.

Please note that enhancements are done pretty much completely by volunteers who choose themselves what enhancements to implement (ie. we do not push enhancement requests on volunteers). So, while I am confirming that this is a valid request, there is no guarantee that it will be implemented - that is 100% dependent on either you submitting a patch, finding a developer, funding a developer, or a volunteer choosing to accept the enhancement.

Nice idea to combine with improving use of styles in Side bar :)

In 6.1 Numbering Style Name was changed from "Numbering 2" to "Numbering abc" etc.
List Styles Name remained the same ("List 2") which is not intuitive and preview would help.

I'd say this bug is still valid:
F11 to get the Styles and Formatting window, press the List Styles button, right click on some style and choose modify to open the Numbering Style window - exact tab (Bullets or Numbering Style) and exact style should be chosen.

May be hindered by the current state that List styles bullets do not correspond to what is shown at Bullets tab. But that's an issue. Why not preview more styles than current 4x2=8? Maybe 6x3=18?
