Description dibrunn 2014-11-21 03:01:24 UTC
I am using Libreoffice Calc, Version: 4.2.7.2, Build ID: 420m0(Build:2) on ubuntu 14.04. Hardware: Lenovo Ideapad S20 (x86).

PROBLEM: References to fields from a different sheet in the form "=othersheet.B4" are (sometimes) not saved correctly. The next time I open Libreoffice Calc, that field would just have "=B4" in it. The numbers shown in that field correspond to "=othersheet.B4" before the problem, but recent changes in "othersheet" are not reflected. So the whole sheet is rubbish.

OCCURRENCE: The problem occurs intermittently. I am using Libreoffice Calc daily, and over the last month, the problem occurred 4-5 times. Each time, I had to fix my spreadsheets manually.

When that problem occurs, ALL references in the form "=othersheet.Xy" are affected, i.e. erroneously converted to "=Xy".

dibrunn,

Intermittent problems are horrible. You have my sympathy.

There has been a lot of development since the 4.2 release line, and it
will soon be end-of-life'd. If you can upgrade to a newer version of
LibreOffice, you may find that the problem goes away. Failing that, a
newer version permits easier diagnosis of problems. The Fresh
version, available via
<http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/> may suit you.

Meanwhile ...

You do not say what file format (.ods, .xls, .xlsx?) you are using for
your file. Please let us know, and then set the bug status back to
UNCONFIRMED.

I suggest that the next time the problem hits you:

(1) Save the just-opened, damaged workbook under a different name.

(2) Attach the just-saved and the previously saved files to this
report. Remember that attachments are visible to the whole world.
If you are unwilling to share your files like that, let us know
and we will try to work something out.

Terry.

Thanks for the comments.
The file type of the spreadsheet where the error occurred was '.ods'.

Hi dibrunn,

The summary is "OpenOffice Calc: References to fields on other sheets are lost". Is there a software-interoperability component to this bug report, or should that read "LibreOffice Calc..." ?

Thanks

I am experiencing this same bug since I updated to xubuntu 14.04 and with it I got LibreOffice Calc 4.2.7.2

This appears to be the same bug listed here:

I have exactly the same problem, and it's driving me crazy.
The same versions of LibreOffice and Ubuntu.
It just started one day, and doesn't go away, no matter how many times I re-enter the correct formula. It just disappears in the middle of work.
Saving the file under a different name doesn't help, and the file is now very large and a lot of efforts put in it, so I can't just toss it and start all over.
Hey, maybe the file's size (number of sheets) is related to the problem - it didn't occur at the beginning.

I'll try Terry's idea to download a fresh version of LibreOffice.

Thanks!

Installing version 4.3.4.1 of LibreOffice didn't help.
The problem keeps appearing.
Some time after renewing the references to other sheets, they become simple references to the current sheet:
A1=Sheet2.C5 turns to A1=C5.
At the beginning the content of A1 remains equal to Sheet2.C5, but after a while the content becomes just C5.

I am using Libreoffice Calc, Version: 4.2.7.2, Build ID: 420m0(Build:2) on ubuntu 14.04

When I move a cellule A to cellule B by drag and drop, the crossed reference are lost.
to get round, copy the cellule A to cellule B and suppr the cellule A, the crossed reference are not lost.

Probably duplicate of bug 79441. See also bug 87010, bug 86916, bug 86125.

Please try https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87010#c2 (or 4.3.5 rc)

Feel free to reopen if it does not solve the problem for you.
