I LOVE the concept of the bibliographic database but there are a few issues that make it totally useless for me.

1. Incomplete list of bibliographic fields, for example, I cannot enter in the URL of a web-based resource. If you cannot include a comprehensive list (preferred option), then at least allow the user to create and name new fields.

2. Have a function to create a bibliography within LibreOffice Writer, for example, at the end of an essay or research paper. Include options for bibliographic standards such as APA, MLA, Chicago Style, etc. (Microsoft Office does this very well.)

If you combine the best of MS Office and LibreOffice then this would be ideal for university students. I don't want to go back to Microsoft but I will make the switch if necessary as I cannot efficiently write academic papers, let alone a graduate thesis, with LibreOffice as it stands now. Thanks for considering this.

Same answer as for bug 68841 comment #2.
To make the story short: please give a try to Zotero (one extension for Firefox to manage the bibliography database and an extension for LibreOffice to make citations).

Feel free to reopen if you know somebody who plans to work on this.

Closing as WontFix.

Best regards. JBF

I totally support the proposal. Certainly we can use external addons but MS Word gives the opportunity to do it right away in next of using external tools. Why not then also in Writer offer such functionality?

There are Mendeley, Zotero which are known to work in both - MS Word and LibreOffice Writer. But if we really would like to make LibreOffice usable in academic world then it is extremely needed feature!

Currently there is real problem, that science magazines, conferences will accept only docx format as scientific paper format. Wh not odt? One of the reasons is that there is missing citation feature. Therefore it is not possible to process correct layout.

Already in gymnasium (since 10th grade) is such citation very important to make research work. But office suite usage starts in general school and where to use LibreOffice if not in general education? Missing citation feature is one of the core reasons for that.

Because, since more than ten years, nobody wanted to code free software that already exists elsewhere. Do you want to do that yourself?

Closing again.

Well, I am not a programmer actually. Otherwise I would have been done a long time ago.
