Description Patrick Gillespie 2015-04-25 18:13:24 UTC
Several times, when meaning to close the new sidebar, I've accidentally closed the document. It's a minor bug, but it seems to me there might be a better solution to the placement of these two 'x's.
Comment 1 Jean-Baptiste Faure 2015-04-26 06:22:54 UTC
There is at least a toolbar between the x closing the current document and the sidebar. Do you have a particular LO screen configuration? Please, could you attach a screencopy?

Set status to NEEDINFO, please set it back to UNCONFIRMED once you have provided requested informations.

Best regards. JBF

What you describe is not the case in the default configuration.

In your opinion.

May I suggest changing the symbol for the sidepine from an 'X' to an arrow '-->'?

Document Close/Sidebar Close Proximity

On more than one occasion, I've accidentally pressed the wrong close button, closing my document rather than the sidebar. At first glance, it doesn't seem they would be close enough; but the issue, I think, is that the same symbol is used for both. I might suggest an arrow for the sidebar close?

It is not clear with your attachment how you obtain this too close proximity. Please explain. Did you remove the main toolbar ?

Best regards. JBF

Document/Sidebar Proximity (New & Improved jpg)

Okay. Sorry. This should be better.
Comment 7 Jean-Baptiste Faure 2015-04-27 13:10:00 UTC
Ok, I have the same toolbar / sidebar configuration as you, but not the close button for the current document because I am using Ubuntu / Unity and its global menu.

This issue make me thinking that the close button of the sidebar is useless because clicking the button of the current tab of the sidebar is a more convenient way to close it.

Best regards. JBF

I'm using Kubuntu.

//This issue make me thinking that the close button of the sidebar is useless because clicking the button of the current tab of the sidebar is a more convenient way to close it.//

And I agree: it might be better to dispense with the 'x' altogether.

Also, I would love to see LibreOffice introduce a Hamburger Icon on the side panel (to optionally replace the menu). Maybe I should make that a feature request?

Screenshot with the button is moved on the left

Back to the original problem, a solution could be to move the close sidebar x button to the left.
