Description Yousuf Philips (jay) (retired) 2015-04-26 06:03:28 UTC
Impress and draw have the easy ability to rotate a shape by clicking on a shape after it has already been selected. This feature would be a useful addition to Writer and Calc to unify this behavior amongst all the apps.
Comment 1 V Stuart Foote 2015-04-26 14:46:40 UTC
Shape objects in Writer and Calc are already exposed to a Rotate .uno:ToggleObjectRotateMode action on the Drawing Object Properties toolbar.

That is the same action as present in Draw on the Standard toolbar as default for the Effects group button. And in Impress on the Drawing toolbar.

It would be reasonable UI to provide similar mouse click toggle of the rotation mode for Writer and Calc shape objects. In addition to mouse movement of a selected object handle, <Ctrl>+<Tab>/<Ctrl>+<Shift>+<Tab> to move between the object handles, and cursor key movements already correctly perform the rotation once you reach rotation mode.

Additionally, Rotation is such a common action--it would be useful if a global shortcut could be implemented that would either toggle into objects rotate mode, or as in case of Image inserted into Writer offer a dialog of 90 deg rotation button actions.

Hi Yousuf, Is that still valid? If so can you give more information about it?

Hey Gulsah, yes still valid. So open Draw and draw a shape, and while its selected, click it once more and you'll see the 4 corners of the shape change from blue squares to red circles (aka rotation mode), and then moving the corners will rotate the shape. It seems that this feature isnt activated in impress either, which is strange.

Just like Stuart mentioned, rotation is a common action for shapes, which is why in MSO has a rotation circle is always present on a shape when its selected. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ls_XFBCH2cI/TejXSx6JKSI/AAAAAAAAA3s/gMSYQ_iIATc/s1600/triangle.PNG

Same reported, but marking as duplicate instead of invalid because there's useful discussion here.
