Description Edmund Laugasson 2015-05-23 18:41:28 UTC
Using 64-bit Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.1 with 4.0.4-040004-generic kernel
LibreOffice version: 5.0.0.0.beta1

Make possible to print document with comments, especially ability to export into PDF as it seen on the screen. Currently comments in PDF are hidden and hard to read them. There is problematic to read the comments with Evince or other PDF-reader, what included in nowadays Linux distros. Adobe Reader shows comments in much better way - at the bottom of page there is possible to open special comments panel. But Adobe Reader is not a solution as it is outdated and not released for Linux anymore.

Feature request would be make PDF-comments to read and scroll (if these are long and have scrollbar) as they are seen in LibreOffice Writer. There would be expected to configure in PDF-export:
 - print comments as hidden (like it is now)
 - as on the screen (like in Writer: always seen and scrollable)

This feature could be both: in print dialog (CTRL+P) at the second tab "LibreOffice Writer" but also in PDF-export dialog with previously mentioned features: hidden or as on the screen.

In addition of exporting into PDF there would be good to print also directly to the paper.

Another proposal is to have ability to put comments to the end of document so also long comments would be fully viewable. This feature would be usable especially when printing to the paper. When reading on the screen then comments in old place at right side with scrollbars would be enough.

Tools -> Options -> LibreOffice Writer -> Print

File -> Printer Settings -> Options

If you set the printer settings to "In margins " then the pdf export will look like it is in Writer.

Changed to RESOLVED NOTABUG.

This not the full solution. A bit longer comments cannot be read.
But when exporting into PDF (which makes possible also to include document structure and create nice PDF TOC at left side) there is no option for comments.

Expected result would be readable and scrollable comments also in PDF.

When printing - yes that idea works (locates a bit different place: File->Print or CTRL+P and then at General tab the comments setting down side - your idea did not have effect).

Why do we have PDF-export if it does not fit? Usually there is no PDF-printer - I just installed it myself. So - it would be more important to have comments at PDF-export. In printing it exist already and we understand that printed document cannot have such rich content in PDF. But exporting can as we can have also nice table of contents in PDF.

Changed also bug title to more precise and changed status to reopened.

This means that if there cannot be scroll long comments then it is not the same as in Writer. Then would be question - cannot export to PDF but ODT makes possible to easy way to change the document and there would be sometimes needed also avoid at least easy way of changing.

There is already bug 77650 which deals with separating the pdf options from the printer options.

So let's make this enhancement about having scrollable comments in the margins of a pdf.

64-bit openSUSE 13.1/13.2
LO 5.0.3.2

Export as PDF, check Watermark/sign with watemark. Result is a page filled with the watermark text that is printed over/above the text on the page. The page text is covered by the watermark text. As far as I understand watermark, it should be either transparent to some degree or placed below/under the page text to be printed.

In addition, the comments problem is still unsolved. It can not be exported to PDF in order to appear, when PDF is open, same way as it looks line in LO. The annotation in PDF is visible as a small gray square, however, in order to open it, with Okular for instance, one must select Reviews, right click on the Pop-Up Note and select Open Pop-Up Note. Rather annoying, I would prefer just click on the annotation in the text (said small gray square), or the comments to be displayed when PDf is open by Okular.

This bug has different components:
1. Export comments in easy way, that's bug 77650.
2. View comments as scrollable in sidebar - that+s not LO issue, but PDF reader problem, NotOurBug.
3. comment 6 watermark is another issue, if still there, should be searched.

So I mark as duplicate of what can be done - if a volunteer takes it.
You may report to Evince, Okular for comments view to be like in new Adobe.
