an example how could be the the sheets grouping solved

Using 64-bit Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.1 with 4.0.4-040004-generic kernel
LibreOffice version: 5.0.0.0.beta1
Build ID: 0a16c3dda4150008d9be6f24cbd15ac198d116d3

The idea comes from Google Spreadsheet where it will automatically group sheets regardless how many them there are - see the attachment.

It would be useful in two cases:
* if there are many sheets
* if the sheet names are a bit longer than possible to see

In attached picture there is shown how it can be solved in Google Spreadsheet.

The idea is to group sheet names into push up menu list so it would be easier to choose - especially when in touch screen but not only. It is always much more easier to choose the sheet name from list than scroll it, especially when there are a lot of sheets and possibly some are with long names.

I know that it is implemented by Navigator but for backward compatibility with Google Spreadsheet it would be very useful. Especially in case of beginners who do not know nothing about Navigator.

thanks for the idea Edmund.
Set to new.

Mind: interference with current context menu needs to be done properly.

There is a list of tabs when you right-click on < > buttons, But yes, there is no dedicated button for the list.

Ah, thanks Tomaz,

Did you revert the summary to "FEATURE REQUEST: group the sheets"
I do not see how that should be clear :)

And did you reset to unconfirmed? Or is BugZilla going weird?

Hello.

I second the suggested feature, but would like to suggest a different alternative:

To offer the possibility to visually group the tabs of several sheets together.

Indeed, I sometimes work of Calc files with many sheets (up to > 30) and navigation from one sheet to another is annoying. These sheets can often be grouped functionally (i.e.: out of the 30 sheets, there are 12 of them that belong to the same topic #1, and then 8 to the topic #2, 5 to topic #3, and so forth).

I would then be useful to be able to to group several sheets together in one single tab but with a drop-down list : one click on the tab opens the drop-down list and lets the user choose from the available sheets, a second click on the tab closes the drop-down list.

This could also be an add-on to LO.
