Description Mercury 2015-08-15 09:41:51 UTC
In Western tradition a cumulative distribution function is F(x) = p{ξ(ω)≤x}. In Soviet — F(x) = p{ξ(ω)<x}. For continuous distribution they are equal, but we should clarify this for discrete distributions. For example, BINOM.DIST function, C parameter:

Currently: Интегральная. При C=0 вычисляет функцию плотности вероятности, при C=1 - функцию распределения.

Should be: Интегральная. При C=0 вычисляет функцию вероятности, при C=1 — функцию распределения (в западной традиции, p{ξ≤x}).

Additionally, there are two other problems in this phrase. 1) Instead of NBSP, MDASH, SPACE we see SPACE, HYPHEN-MINUS, SPACE. 2) Discrete distrubutions do not have “плотность вероятности” (probability density), they have “функция вероятности” (probability function). The second one I’ll file as another bug.

P.S. I don’t know right now what to write in inverse CDFs, but IMHO do not change.

Passing this one to Helen from the Russian l10n team too - Sophie

Why, IMHO, do not change inverse CDF? For example, it has a discontinuity (5 to 6) at 0.49. When we are really close to 0.49, both answers (5 and 6) will satisfy us.

In CDF itself we should understand if 0.49 is probability of [0..6] (Western tradition) or of [0..5] (Soviet tradition).

anyone can give an update of this bug current status?
is it still an issue using LibO 5.2.4.2?
Comment 5 Mike Kaganski 2017-01-29 18:45:45 UTC
Now (in 5.3.0.3) that param is "Интегральная. При C=0 вычисляет функцию вероятности, при C=1 — функцию распределения".

I am not sure that this is proper place to discuss the Russian translation; it is actually done in forumooo.ru.

Dear Reporter,
Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to 'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.

Dear Bug Submitter,

Please read this message in its entirety before proceeding.

Your bug report is being closed as INSUFFICIENTDATA due to inactivity and
a lack of information which is needed in order to accurately
reproduce and confirm the problem. We encourage you to retest
your bug against the latest release. If the issue is still
present in the latest stable release, we need the following
information (please ignore any that you've already provided):

a) Provide details of your system including your operating
system and the latest version of LibreOffice that you have
confirmed the bug to be present

b) Provide easy to reproduce steps – the simpler the better

c) Provide any test case(s) which will help us confirm the problem

d) Provide screenshots of the problem if you think it might help

e) Read all comments and provide any requested information

Once all of this is done, please set the bug back to UNCONFIRMED
and we will attempt to reproduce the issue. Please do not:

a) respond via email

b) update the version field in the bug or any of the other details
on the top section of our bug tracker

Warm Regards,
QA Team
