I've got Windows 10 and recently downloaded LibreOffice, but the typing speed is incredibly slow. I'm not an extremely fast typer, but the Writer is pausing between every letter, even when I'm backspacing, which is making it incredibly difficult and frustrating to use.
Hi, you do not mention which LO version you are actually using. Is this bug still valid / reproducible with the latest LO release? http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ Please also try resetting your user profile and let us know if that helps: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile Should this be still reproducible for you with the latest LO release please set this bug back to UNCONFIRMED. Should this issue be solved set it to WORKSFORME. Setting to NEEDINFO until more detail is provided.
I also have this problem since some time (I think it started when I upgraded to LO 5, but I hoped it would resolve itself). Sometimes the typing speed is reasonable, sometimes it lags quite irritably. It appears in large files (180 000 and 400 000 words respectively); it may also appear in small files but at the moment I don't use those sufficiently to say. I have upgraded to LO 5.0.3.2 (x64) (build ID: e5f16313668ac592c1bfb310f4390624e3dbfb75 ). My OS is windows 8.1 (64 bits), with a 2.60 GHz processor and 6 GB RAM. Resetting the user profile did not change the appearance of the bug. Neither did deinstalling and reinstalling.
What about toggling Tools - Options - LibO - View - Use OpenGL for all rendering? Set to NEEDINFO. Change back to UNCONFIRMED after you have provided the information.
I disabled OpenGL, but saw no significant difference. I also disabled OpenCL at a later moment (OpenGL continued to be disabled), but that did not make a significant difference either.
Would it be possible to provide a document you know actually creates this issue? I'm setting this as NEEDINFO. When you provide a document you can "reliably" get the issue on, just remember to set it back to UNCONFIRMED.
I can send one by e-mail, but as it is somewhat sensitive (it's my thesis) I can't upload it here. I have also a few additionnal observations. The bug persists when updating to Windows 10. Also, the word counter (next to the page counter) often tends to give an erroneous word count when the typing lag appears. I remember that some time ago there were problems with word count; maybe this is another effect thereof.

Created attachment 121137 [details] sanitized doc in which the slow typing appears
It's an odt file
Additional note: this bug resembles Bug 63696 - EDITING: serious performance problems in ods file, such as typing text, apply style (https://bugs.documentfoundation.org//show_bug.cgi?id=63696 ), which concerns Calc and not Writer.
(In reply to f5d505f9 from comment #8) > Created attachment 121137 [details] > sanitized doc in which the slow typing appears I don't notice slowness. Do you have automatic spellchecking enabled? Does it help, if you disable it from Tools menu. Win 7 Pro 64-bit, Version: 5.0.3.2 (x64) Build ID: e5f16313668ac592c1bfb310f4390624e3dbfb75 Locale: fi-FI (fi_FI)

(Even with automatic spellcheck.) I normally have automatic spellchecking enabled. I have disabled it, and at the moment the speed is reasonable. But I'm not using LO intensively at the moment, so it's difficult to say.
