Created attachment 119975 [details] Net monitoring app generated .xls file Trying to open a .xls file opens a LO window, the progress bar gets to the half of its run space, and nothing else happens until a minute or so. After that, a "Critical I/O error" draws on the screen. The .xls file is generated by a network monitoring application. I can see it's not the usual .xls format, but a single xml file, and is 2MB long. Despite that, a reduced-size version of that same file opens ok. It seems the problem arises when the file exceeds certain size. (The file also opens right with "the other" spreadsheet app :-s ) I'm attaching the reduced-size version. After the bug is opened I'll check if the page allows me to attach the full-lenght version of this same file. I have tried to open it with the LO version that is packaged with Kubuntu 14.04.2 (It was 4.something. Sorry for the lack of precision on this). Then I installed LO 5.0.2.2.- The results are exactly the same. Any help, appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, This file is of "Excel 2003 XML" format which is poorly supported by LO. In fact we don't have a real filter for such files, only XSLT-based thing. And XSLT is slow, so it will take several minutes to open the file. Try it yourself in the terminal: $ xsltproc --output output.fods /usr/lib64/libreoffice/share/xslt/import/spreadsheetml/spreadsheetml2ooo.xsl full-lenght.xls (In reply to Claudio from comment #0) > After that, a "Critical I/O error" draws on the screen. This message will appear once a minute during the XSLT conversion, you just need to click "Retry" again and again, until the conversion is finished.
