Created attachment 122906 [details] Screenshot after typing Windows 8.1 After first-ever install of LO, program appears but the GUI is broken. (same after reboot and reinstall and reboot again) Calc: Shows no grid, just white background Writer: Shows white and non-blinking prompt Both Calc and Writer: If I enter text nothing is shown, but "Undo typing djfasdks..." appears in menu. I can Save doc, this actually works, and contains the typed text. Menus appear and look normal on right-click. Menus are responsive, but no action taken (clicked random operations) I can create new Doc, new window with same behaviour pops up. And can be closed. Win Activity monitor doesn't show much going on for LO, it doesn't seem stuck. Settings: I can open preferences, but not switch from first view. I can close Prefs with Cancel button. Opening any document, ODS, Doc/Docx, txt, nothing is shown. - have Admin rights, single-user machine. - have tried run as Administrator. - have refreshed to latest Java (I had next-latest) Installations usually just work (Firefox, Visual Studio, OpenOffice...!) No games or videos running in background that would interfere. WHY the heck did I uninstall OpenOffice 3.3 for this?!
Disable Tools - Options - LibO - View - Use OpenGL for all rendering As you don't see the menu, you should get there from the start center by Alt-T and then hitting O If you don't see anything in the dialogs, you can edit C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\registrymodifications.xcu Find the line with UseOpenGL and change the value like this: <value>false</value> Please give us the contents of: C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\cache\opengl_device.log (In reply to klapautius from comment #0) > WHY the heck did I uninstall OpenOffice 3.3 for this?! You were feeling adventurous and chose the first release of a major update I guess..
Found an existing report. Please give us your opengl_device.log anyways. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 97733 ***

I can arrow down in Settings, but no idea where the setting is. Not worth the trouble. > If you don't see anything in the dialogs, you can edit > C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\registrymodifications.xcu > Find the line with UseOpenGL and change the value like this: > <value>false</value> That line doesn't exist. No string with "opengl" (caseless) in this file. > Please give us the contents of: > C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\cache\opengl_device.log Done > (In reply to klapautius from comment #0) > > WHY the heck did I uninstall OpenOffice 3.3 for this?! > > You were feeling adventurous and chose the first release of a major update I > guess.. It was the one under the big green "download" link. Which one should I look for? (<= rhetorical question) Sorry for snarkiness, just that all versions have worked out of the box. (I've used most Sun/Oracle/Adobe versions on work and home PC:s and Mac's over the years) Will try 5.0.5 then. HEY Why is LO tampering with Firefox AND Chrome??? I can't even uninstall without closing everything! You have to restart system to uninstall ?? I'm filing a new bug report and then move to something else. There's no time for this. Please consider your development policies if you want any new users.
Ah. 5.0.5 works. Thanks for replies, sorry to test your patience.
(In reply to klapautius from comment #4) > Please consider your development policies if you want any new users. LibreOffice is not a business. Of course there are some businesses contributing to development, but none of them have employees doing quality assurance (to my knowledge). So the users are doing most of the work outside development and these users would naturally like to see more users, but most importantly *contributors*.
