I was trying to write CAD at the end of the line, and instead other stuff popped up.

I wanted to start a new thought on a page, and so I hit enter... and BLAM, there was not a new line, and a word that I may have typed earlier in brainstorming showed up.

I am a fairly fast typist, so it is very alarming to have moved on a bit and have everything be messed up.

It is very alarming, why is this happening?

What is wrong with my return/enter button?
Did it enter something instead of return to the next line?

Am I affected by a virus?
Why would random stuff be popping up on my screen.
I was told about these devices that plug into the computer and type commands, but they look like a USB stick... I shall go smash a few of them to see if they have been tampered with...

so you type CAD and LibreOffice writes CADRecreation?

is this a constant replacement or happens randomly?

did you try resetting the user profile?

also tell the exact version of LibO you use and your O/S

It was a just downloaded copy as of that day.
It was a fresh install, not an upgrade.
Resetting a user profile is beyond the user.

I believe it was windows10
libreoffice 5.0.6

You found the secret Word Completion feature, read up on it here:
https://help.libreoffice.org/Writer/Word_Completion_for_Text_Documents

As for me, I think it should be off by default. Nevertheless, this is not a bug.

How is this not a bug?

I tried to make a newline, and a misspelled word popped up.

I'm not in the habit of looking at the screen when I type... I don't have to look at the keys, I'm thinking or looking at a picture.

Many of my clients have to look at the keyboard just to type... They don't even realize it when they haven't clicked on a text field in a web browser and have spent a few minutes typing.

Maybe a sort of compromise would be that autocomplete only works on words that are in the dictionary? but that could still completely alter the meaning of a list say I want

chocolate
ant

and

antimony
pops up in the list...

I could poison people...

This could be seriously bad writing a chemistry paper... I mean you guys could be liable for blowing stuff up or killing people.

You are funny :)

As for the liabilities you should check the software license with your lawyer. It is pretty plain about that part.

Hi Aaron,

Well the list of words that autocomplete are in Tools > AutoCorrect > AutoCorrect Options > Word Completion and i only see 4 words in my list, so not sure how CAD was auto completed to CADRecreation. What does your list look like in the dialog?

I consider this a useful feature to be on by default, but as i was unaware of it until now, i'm assuming other users wouldnt have easily discovered it either, which likely needs some UX move to improve.
