(In reply to vlb from comment #0) > 1) open attachment > 2) select cells A1:Q5 and choose copy cells > 3) open new file and choose "paste special" What do you select in "Paste special" ? Choosing default settings (Text/Numbers/Date time) I did both tests in daily20160525. The files open without problem in Excel 2010. Your https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=125214 does give the error.

When i slect in menu "clear direct formatting" for the entire sheet then save as XSLX and open the file without error. I can reproduce it also with open the ods file and save as XSLX in LO 5.1.3 and when opening in excel 2007 give a error.
(In reply to vlb from comment #3) > > What do you select in "Paste special" ? > I select in "paste special" option "comments" and "formats" I confirm the problem with that scenario. > I can reproduce it also with open the ods file and save as XSLX in LO 5.1.3 > and when opening in excel 2007 give a error. Using the original file: same problem.

@frank: form your initial description we know that the problematic formatting is in the range M1:Q5. Can you please narrow down the range? That should make it easier to fix the problem. Thanks

Created attachment 168377 [details] Minimized example file Looks like the problem source is the custom formatting in P1 of the original file.
Created attachment 168378 [details] The minimized example file saved as xlsx Calc opens this, but resets the custom formatting to the default Number - Standard. Excel fails to open this as seen on attachment #125348 [details]

Removing conditional formatting metabug, this is a number formatting problem. @Eike, I thought you might be interested in this one.
