Similar to default and heading paragraph styles having default shortcuts, it would be beneficial to have shortcut for the basic character styles like default, emphasis and strong. We are using Ctrl + # for the paragraph styles, so maybe Ctrl + Shift + # for the character styles.

Ctrl+Alt seems less natural, but if they are available that could be the solution to stay near paragraph styles - Sophie

They are incorrectly grayed out on linux (bug 98374) and are functional in Calc to assign Number Formats. > In any case I've linked some of my character styles to Ctrl + Alt + # Recently or always? @Cor, @Sophie: What is your take on using Ctrl + Shift + B and Ctrl + Shift + I for strong emphasis and emphasis (bug 108015)?
