screenshot showing toolbars in writer

Problem: Icons on toolbars look terrible (see attached screenshot)

LO version: 5.4.0.3rc from fresh ppa

OS: ubuntu-gnome 17.04 zesty / gnome 3.24 / linux 4.10.0-28

Platform: Dell XPS13 9360 / intel HD graphics 620 (Kabylake)

Reproducibility: always

I have tried to uninstall/reinstall, clear config. Nothing seems to solve the issue. Issue does not happen on ubuntu 16.04 xenial derivatives (mint 18.x cinnamon and KDE versions) with the same LO version, although not tested on the same computer. Happens with any icon set.

Do you use gtk or gtk3?
Could you please paste the information from Help - About LibreOffice?
Comment 2 d.saintmx 2017-08-01 14:12:15 UTC
It is using gtk3. Here is the info:

Version: 5.4.0.3
Build ID: 1:5.4.0~rc3-0ubuntu0.17.04.1~lo0
Threads CPU : 4; OS : Linux 4.10; UI Render : par défaut; VCL : gtk3;
Locale : fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); Calc: group
Comment 3 Xisco Faulí 2017-08-01 14:22:14 UTC
Does it happen if you run LibreOffice with SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk?

On the other hand, To be certain the reported issue is not related to corruption in the user profile, could you please reset your Libreoffice profile ( https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile ) and re-test?
Comment 4 d.saintmx 2017-08-01 14:29:40 UTC
Resetting my user profile does not help.
Where do I change the variable value SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN?
Comment 5 Xisco Faulí 2017-08-01 14:32:25 UTC
from command line, launch LibreOffice like 'SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk soffice' or 'SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk <dir where soffice is>'
Comment 6 d.saintmx 2017-08-01 14:35:59 UTC
SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk soffice
=> does not suppress the issue neither

same result with libreoffice -env:SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk --writer

Hi, some news.
The issue is present on a fresh installation of ubuntu gnome xenial, this time on the same laptop. So might it be a hardware specific issue?
